In no good sense should they be able to entrap people at the last minute with a "bus lane only" sign barely visible on the road, then stick a camera on a post behind you. The writing "bus lane" is about 5 meters from the lights you have to stop at,

there is no warning signs 20+ meters away from the bus lane, everything is right at the last minute with no warnings approaching a bus lane.

If they send a letter out, is this enough to try and get out of any fines? IMO if you are approaching a bus lane, with camera systems, they should be warning you over 30-50 meters away atleast your approaching a bus lane, please move to the left

Daylight robbery

Hopefully it didnt go off,

this is why i hate driving my car around the city. Local councils get enough money from me given that they are absolutely useless and dont actually do anything.

If I end up getting a fine so you think there is any grounds to appeal? There are no signs approaching. Only at the very last minute. And also..no road markings warning you as approach. Only a faint road marking pretty much 5-8 meters at the lights where you have to stop by which point it's too late..

When the issue happened. If I'm on on camera .they will see that I noticed right at the last minute. They would also have me indicating left.. so I noticed right at the last minute as there was no adequate warning approaching .. I corrected my mistake by turning left when the lights went green ..but at this point it was too late.. .

So to summerise....because there was not adequate prewarning I accident drove in to the bus lane road on a bank holiday weekend Sunday..

I got the lights. Realised eventually.. did not turn right which is for buses and taxis. But stuck my indicators left and turned left when the lights went green

Is it likely I will get a letter and is it likely I could appeal ?

The camera is very visible in your last pic, you will almost definitely get a letter.
No reason not to appeal though, the worst that can happen is that it's rejected

i wouldnt say the camera is that visaible. In the blistering sun the reflections on the building infront mask the camera - the building infront is made of glass . Also, your eyes should be road level when driving, not looking upwards also, the road sign is very poor, and the road markings are within the last 5-8 meters on the road when it is too late. this IMO does not give adequate time to react properly, especially if there was traffic in the left hand lane. If you seen the road marking at the last minute and there was traffic in the left hand lane this would force you to slam on your breaks in fear of getting a fine. thus potentially causing danger of a rear end collision if there was traffic behind you, whilst you wait for any traffic on the left to clear so you could move over to the left.

The right hand turn is to go towards one of cardiff's biggest city centre carparks, and this road layout and bus lane never used to be there, you used to be able to drive right towards the carpark

Now, if you were using this road, you have to take the left turn, to go left, drive half a mile to a mile down the road then turn back on yourself to come back this way to head towads the carpark

there is absolutely no reason other than money making as to why they have done this, the fact you cant really see the camera or the markings on the road until the last minute shows this.

This is what the bus lane lenfth should stipulate

Bus lane signs must be placed at least 30 meters before the start of a bus lane with a 30 MPH speed limit, and 45 meters before the start of a bus lane with a higher speed limit. There is also a 20-meter rule that should be observed before a PCN (Penalty Charge Notice) is issued, meaning a vehicle shouldn't be contravening the bus lane for less than 20 meters.

You turned left though didn’t you? If so you didn’t actually go in the bus lane.

The camera is looking at those who have passed the lights.

I was in the bus lane, but its at this point i realised as there was no clear visibility in the approach to it , so when i realised i then turned left, i was in the bus lane though end the end by the lights

So, i did not turn right at the lights which is for bus's and taxis only, i turned left

How do you know the camera is only looking at the road for people turning right ? surely the whole purposes of the markings before the lights on the road are to catch people going in to the bus lane and also those turning right, so the cameras i would have thought would be catching those entering the markings for bus lane

Looks pretty clear to me that it is a bus lane. Its dashed off, you could have just filtered into the left hand lane and stopped if necessary if a car was in the left lane. I assume this is a 20mph zone?

those are the only warnings up and coming yes

the road markings are around 5-8 meters before the lights
