Hi all, I live in a shared house where my bedroom windows have this lock on them:

My landlord is completely useless and can't seem to find a key/can't be arsed to find it. So it's down to me - any ideas? It's getting rather toasty in here :(

Ta!

Well, I think what you SHOULD do is pressure your landlord to get it sorted. However, looking at the lock there's a couple of options.

1. Get a professional to look at it (boring and expensive)
2. You can get special putty that you adding boiling water to to make it go soft and then it hardens after a couple of minutes. Given the fairly simple lock, you could do that, fill the lock with it, and when it solidifies it should form the complimentary shape, i.e. key. I think there's a couple of different products that do this, however there is a risk of breaking the lock, so, as I said, hassle landlord is the correct thing to do.

1. melt Plastic
2. Shove molten plastic into lock
3. when cool pull out.
4. file of around the "key"
5. use new key

thats what i did once

Turn it with a pair of pliers or something. It doesnt look like it requires a "key" just something to turn it. Righty tighty lefty loosey.

Would 150mm long nose pliers do the trick? Looking at the Halfords website I can get a pair for £2.50, and it's just around the corner...
