I'm in a uni house at the minute and a bit worried about people goin in my room, not my housemates so much but the people they might bring back, e.g. for a "party", on my door at the minute is just a standard handle and I dont really want to go sawing chunks off and things. Is there some kind of lock with a key I can just replace the current one with?

I dont want a bolt or anythin because that would mean I would have to start puttin holes in frames and things anyway I just want the kind of thing I have now but that I can lock with a key as I'm more worried about when I'm not here than when I am.

Any one know anythin about this kind of thing?

To put a lock in the frame you have to drill some holes, the bolt has to go into somewhere.

At minimum you'll need a few screw and a padlock aka garden gate style.

Nah, B&Q (other household/DIY stores are available) do all sorts of doorknobs with locks built-in.

I have one on my door.

get one of those personal alarms for your room out of B&Q, if they walk in it will scare the dung out of them and they wont go near your room, and also if you arent there they wont be able 2 stop it :D

yup - you'd have to replace the door handle but its not as if its huuuugely expensive. Not hard (if you think about the mechanics involved) to put some kinda lock in that stops the handle being pulled or moves the bit that links the handle to the bolt :)

Aye :)

Just replaces the original door knob. Nothing extra but a key lock on the outside and a turning lock on the inside :)

We've got 5 or 6 of them in our house.

I see what you mean now, some reason I am thinking an extra slot for the dead bolt to go in.

if your in a student house, putting a key lock on your door would turn it into a house of multiply occupancy. If you have a contract for just your room your already in one, if you are all on the same contract you'll want to talk to your landlord before you go adding keylocks to doors.

DO a search - I remember a similar thread at the start of summer, with someone suggesting a device that goes on top of the handle and locks it, with your own key or something. It didn't require any drilling or damage to the door I believe.

Make sure it's one of the ones you can unlock when you're in the room... I have a feeling your housemates might find it hillarious to lock someone in their bedroom for a week.

I took the handle off today and had a lock at the hole inside the door, theres only a circle hole where the square pole goes through and enough for the catch thing to fit, still possible to change with a key lock or not?

If it is then does anyone know a name or have a picture of the type I'm lookin for? I've had a loko round the B&Q site but theres millions and none look like they'd fit. Cheers.

That.

Rented accomodation with locks on individual rooms are required to meet different fire safety regulations so go speak to your landperson.
