All depends on where you're parking it at home/work etc. Disc lock for work/shopping - almax chain for home (yes they're a lot but there's a reason why) - however if it's a cheap chinese 125 then I probably wouldn't bother. If your bike is a 2014 fireblade however - chain, ground anchor, silent alarm, attack dogs are all worth it :D

The main almax chain site,Yh they are expensive but are the only chains that are bolt cutter proof, they weigh a tonne also

I had what I thought was a decent chain n lock and the lock got cropped when I was over in Birmingham

Heh, nothing that fancy, looking for a used Yamaha YBR or Honda CBR125, or similar under £2000.
Spending £150+ on a chain+lock though, also need a disc lock as-well, makes my wallet cry....

Cant find anywhere that sells it, and it looks to be like £150+?

Well, you won't get an Almax chain and lock for less than that.

You must bare in mind, anything less than either an Almax or a Pragmasis chain, you are literally throwing your money away on something that is completely pointless.

A supposedly decent disc lock is near enough £60, turns out they can be defeated in seconds.
Oxford monster, kryptonite and what ever else chains are just as expensive and can be beaten in under a minute.

ic, so a 16mm Pragmasis is perfectly fine?
Theirs two version on there website, the Squire lock and the Untouchable lock.......Untouchable is more expensive but looks like you can't even get a grip on it with anything.
Just the chain its self is £114.95. Would be best to get one of the locks with them as-well?

.

I disagree, even a cheap chain and lock could be enough to deter a would be scum bag.
Obviously if the scum bag is determined then he's gonna have it anyway - regardless of security chain brand snobbery.
I do agree because there's no denying it " Almax chains are a better chain than all/most others" but just because you have one doesn't mean your bike wont get nicked.

Just try to park in plain view and hopefully next to a bike with no security....your cheapo 99p D lock would be enough to make them choose the other bike.
Ha !

Ha !

Its not chain snobbery, its me not wanting my 9k bike nicked.

My bike is chained to a concreted in ground anchor with a 16mm pragmasis chain with the unbreakable lock, it CANNOT be defeated without using power tools for an extended period of time and an awful lot of noise.

Other chains can be defeated with bolt croppers and a bit of huffing and puffing, which you stand less chance of hearing.

Your 99p D lock can be defeated with a pen lid.

Your £99 Kryptonite D lock can be defeated with a pen lid, in seconds, and your bike is gone.

It isnt as simple as "anything is a deterrent" because unfortunately something that they know they can break in seconds is no deterrent at all.
