I've just bought one of this and have a few questions.

Which weights do you use? I'm tempted to just fill it with all the heavier ones but need to try a few different options that suit others.

Which mouse mat works especially well with the G5? I only need/want a small one.

The scroll button seems a bit dodgy already. Am I best to turn the left/right click option off the scroll wheel?

Cheers.

TBH I normaly remove the weight cartridge completely and run light for gaming. My work G5 has 4x4.5g and 5x1.7g.

The scroll wheel hasn't been a problem for me.

I've used both a razer mantis speed mat and a razer exact mat for gaming, Both work well, as does my cheapo staples mat I've got at work.

I have no weights, and it's fine. Scroll wheel can be a bit sensitive, like when you're playing TF2 and you accidentally hit the scroll wheel, not actually click it round, and it changes weapon. I just set it in controls that the mouse wheel doesnt change weapons, because I use the numbers anyway.

No problemd here. I have the V1 (Just one thumb button) and have no weights in it. Just experiment with them.
I use an Everglide Titan mousemat. Smooth, and huge.

I use 6 of the 4.5g ones (in the end which gets inserted. The 2 slots at the 'back' of the cartridge I leave blank.

Been like that for few years, I might experiment with a change now actually.

I use 6 1.7g's and 2 4.5g's, ive tried different combos and they dont really make much difference, i also have a cordless g7 and the battery slots into the same place as the g5 weight holder, the battery in it is extremely light and i dont notice a lot of difference between both mice.

Generally don't use weights, find it weighty enough. The scroll wheel has been very slightly inferior to the rest of the grand build quality but nothing much here to criticise it for.

Edit : for me online play best played usually with no weights, single player or desktop then optional. Tis a reasonably large mouse and felt like moving an iron when I started moving around the mat, lol.:D Remember when I first bought the mouse, coming from previously using a standard 800dpi logitech optical it took months to really settle the g5 in but I wouldn't be without it now.

I'm struggling with mine at the minute , like above it seems very skittish regardless of dpi settings. Its as though it jumps 10 pixels at a time instead of 1, if you know what i mean ? ? ? Making accurate shots almost impossible. I was using a cloth razer mouse mat and it was even worse with this, i am currently just running it straight on the keyboard shelf of my desk.
Very frustrating.

I thought it was just me, but I guess not. The 'skittish' thing is starting to rearly annoy me, so much so I am looking to buy another mouse.

Totally agree, and i thought it was just me. Seems these g5's must have a problem then ? ? ?
I have tried my bros lachesis and it is much more accurate just find the shape of it doesnt suit me.
I think i will email logitech and see if they can help.

Id recommend cloth surfaces, as ive used the steel series plastic mat with my G5 and it doesnt really glide, sounds almost as if its scratching (both the mouse and mouse surface is clean).

Id go for either a Qpad, check sizes, or a razer goliathus.

edit: as for weights, i use 4 x 4.5g weights, feels just right for me.

Using a Qpad here and it runs nicely on it, a step from previously having used the Razer exact cloth mat, which I also quite liked. Qpad much better though.:)

Got mine today and using 2 x 4.5g down the middle and 6 x 1.7g down the sides.

Havn't played any CS:S just yet so that will probably change in a bit.

If you have the black/silver one - have you people done the Logitech® G5 Laser Mouse Firmware Update ? The newer revision i.e. black/blue I doubt will need it.

When I first got my Logitech G5, I upgraded the firmware to 1.2 this was back in 2007 when I used Windows XP. It gives more compatability with different mousemats.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/428/135&cl=us,en?softwareid=638&osid=1

Note: This update does not support the 64-bit version of Windows® XP or Windows® Vista.

I've already got 1.2 update installed but I just tried the program again in Vista 64bit, it wont let you do the update - says you need a 32bit operating system but it identified the 1.2 updated had been installed previously. :)
