I've not had first hand experience of the G500, but I have used a G5 for the past 4-5 years.

Best mouse ever and the G500 keeps the same classic shape.

Yeah I'd recommend it. I'm using one now, though I'm on my second one as the left button died so I returned it and got a replacement, but other than that it's an awesome mouse!

Cracking mouse.. Bought the same pack a few month ago n not looked back.. They work well with each other and mat is HUUUUUGE!!!

I prefered the MX518 for build quality and feel. Left button developped a squeak, free-rolling wheel a bit of a gimmick, and so was the weights (for me anyway). Found the thumb rest a bit rough but you adapt to it.

Overall, it's a good mouse.

It's a good mouse, just not quite as good as the older versions such as the G5.
