Ok i've wasted enough time on this remote. It really isn't working for me - can someone recommend an alternative to control Panasonic TV, virgin media cable box, pioneer dvd, cyrus amp and cd?

Thanks for an input, universal remotes shouldn't be this frustrating. Incidentally, the reason for getting one was the supplied virgin remote has such poor range (about 1m) so I need an alternative.

What probelms are you having with the 525 ?, Ive got the 835 and find it does everything I could possibly want.
A while ago i was talking to some on on another forum who was frustrated with his harmony but it was 100% down to user error and not knowing how to set it up correctly.
I presume you use the on line software to set your remote up and then download everything to the remote and not try and set every thing up as a learning remote ?

The virgin boxes are notoriously difficult to control

don't blame the remote

Have you called up their helpline, it is very good.

Thanks, my specific problem was trying to learn an additional command on the remote from the virgin one that wasn't picked up - the TV function. Whenever I do this it stops all the other buttons working and ruins the work i've done so far. I'll consider the helpline but I have emailed support and they suggested learning on a flat surface, low light conditions, etc. which i've tried.

Its also not turning on my CD player, but I think i'll leave that and get the TV/cable working first.

I'm using the online software to set it all up - just wondering if there was an alternative as its a bit of time sink so far!

Looks don't play on the part when choosing remote control. From the looks of it the 525 isn't very ergonomic, with small recessed buttons that don't fall into reach of finger tips. The URC are easy to use shape, and batteries last ages. If you have no need for colour backlight LCD then why pay for it- and get shorter battery life?

The Harmony web wizard system is rubbish- designed for noobs.

Some people think the Pronto's look nicer, it's form over function though, once you've had a touchscreen. Have to look at it to use, and if you drop it.

Got MX-200, MX-500, MX-700 and I'll be picking up a MX-850 sometime.

Escalated the support issue with Logitech and they don't have the codes in their database to give me the additonal functionality. Going to flog it and try a URC..

Do you have the make/model of each component? I'll check if there are pre-programmed codes (will save time learning onto it, and could have discretes)

I've not had any problems whatsoever with my virgin box (scientific atlanta) and harmony 785 and i agree, the helpline is very good and moreover a freephone number.

It does take a while getting the right setup with setting up activities with lots of devices but in the end it is worth it.

Only had an issue with my panasonic plasma but a small setting change fixed that.

I have my V+ box working perfectly with a Harmony 525. I've programmed the V+ and TV buttons into the Additional Buttons section so that they appear on the LCD and they work fine.

Sure, from memory its:

Panasonic TX32PD50 TV
Pioneer 575A DVD player
Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4200DVB (virgin box)
Cyrus CD 6 (CD player)
Cyrus 7 Amp

Think that's all, as others have said I have a different model Virgin box which I think is where the issue lies. Will have a google, thanks BadBob for checking for me.

Pioneer is in the database
Scientific Atlantic has two, just generic codes so unsure
Cyrus not in the database
Panasonic isn't, however has generic codes, or you could learn.

Go to http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-master/list.cgi
and post a thread- the most important thing to check is your sky/cable boxes, they might use toggle bit codes, which cannot be learnt on learning remotes- they must be built into the database. I have the same problem with there MX-500 and Bush DVB- cannot learn on the MX-500 My MX-700 and MX-850 has the codes built-in

Strange. I just had a check and both the cyrus 7 amp and the cd6 are in the database, as is the panasonic TX32PD50, pioneer dvd player and the scientific atlanta.

Only one that may be a problem is the scientific atlanta box as sid may be able to give you some more info on.
