I use a logitech + kodi pi2/3, Basically flawless much more responsive than when I tried with HDMI-CEC.
Took me about 10mins to setup 2 years ago and no looked at it since.

I use one of these. Make take a bit of button programming depending upon your set up, but does the job.

You'll still need a cheap generic pc remote for the ir dongle to operate kodi.
