Logitech MX Master 4

So, in general - how is it?
Is it good for gaming as well? I dont play CS, but games like adventure, strategic etc
I've been using Superlight for 5 years now and worried that if i get MX4, its gonna be too heavy for me.
I've been using my MX Master 2S for gaming for years now, but only for certain games. Slay the Spire, Factorio, X-Com games, IXION...stuff where I'd rather have relaxed comfort over 1000Hz polling. I absolutely switch to my G502x for CS2, Finals, Guntouchables...

And why they kept polling rate of 125 Hz???
My guess is battery life - it's a number that more of their target audience cares about than those who care about polling rate. That said, 1000Hz hardware would probably still give the same battery life when set to a 125Hz option. The choice would have been nice.

Sending mine back and going back to my MX Master 3S.
The mouse is nice but they changed the shape ever so slightly so the left side is not as curved and you can't grip it as easily. This along with the fact it's slippery means you cannot easily lift it and re-position it which makes it difficult to use compared to the previous MX mice.

It's a shame because other than that it's a really nice mouse and the new actions ring is very helpful. Thankfully they brought the action ring to the previous MX mice as well so I've set the large thumb button on my 3S to work the same way. Over-all I feel the 4 is a step backwards from the 3S.

Ok so how long until the 4S? My 2S is starting to falter so the 4 is calling me, but I'd happily hold out for a 4S if it means inductive switches or >125Hz polling rate.

I gave in and bought a white one. Firstly, I find this to be mostly accurate:

The rubber they're using for the thumb area is just a lot more slippery, and on the 2S my thumb would grip just under the side scroll wheel - not the case now with the new layout.
The mouse is overall WAY quieter than my old 2S; the clicks, normal notched scroll and the switch between notched a free-spin scrolling are all basically silent. Middle click it surprisingly a little louder than the old mouse but it's not something I do often.
The wheel feels heavier and more premium with the lack of rubber/plastic in the centre, and the thumb button seems way easier to use; the old mouse always felt vague and you never really knew where exactly the actual button was.
I think the side scroll wheel is an upgrade, but the side back/forward buttons are a downgrade, albeit with an extra button.

Happy overall. My 7 year old 2S shall be retired to a box for a while...

does mouse weight matter? just get bigger forearms

Indeed. This is something I've never really understood.
I quite like a mouse with some weight and you've got companies out there making them lighter and lighter, cheaper and cheaper.

Maybe that's it? Lighter = fewer materials = cheaper to make.
Add in marketing for gamers and you can charge a premium price.

There's a point at which extra weight becomes a problem for faster games. When you're making thousands of tiny twitch movements largely based on reflex adding 50% to the weight of the thing in your hand makes a difference. It adds 50% to the inertia you have to overcome with every movement AND 50% to the friction on the desk.
