Logitech Z-5500 prices.

The Onkyo certainly ticks your boxes but so will several av receivers for under £200 2nd hand. Just look at hi-fi/video review sites and look for previous years best buys. Sometimes you can still find them new for a fraction of the price of when they won the award. It doesn't make them any less good. I've seen 2007/2008 best buy £1000 receivers sell for £300 new nowadays and hence much less 2nd hand. You can certainly buy what was a full great sounding system which cost over £1000 for under £200 2nd hand.

Onkyo key specs in relation to what your after:

DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus Decoding
• HDMI (v. 1.3a) Audio and Video Processing
• HDTV-Capable HDMI (2 Inputs and 1 Output) and Component Video (50 MHz) Switching (3 Inputs and 1 Output)
• Bi-Amping Capability for Enhanced Musicality and Power
DTS®-ES™ Discrete/Matrix, DTS® Neo:6, DTS® 96/24, Dolby® Digital EX™, Dolby® Pro Logic IIx
• H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply) Massive High Power Transformer
Independent Crossover Adjustment for F/C/S/SB (40/50/60/80/100/120/150/200 Hz)

And later decent surround speakers sets are even cheaper to buy as on ebay they are collection only normally and go for a song.

My speakers were probably over £500 when they were new.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get something purely dedicated as an amp, I don't need the video bit, everything I do is through my pc and I still have a 21'' 4:3 crt tv which I'm not planning to upgrade, don't feel the need to as I watch films in 1080p on my 24'' monitor over DVI anyhow... But I would like to also be able to plug in a console I ''may'' get sometime in the future ( which will also be plugged in to my monitor through hdmi, and to the amp through optical or coax ?), and I want to be able to plug in an LP and a (dual) cassette player into it. I mean all these AV things have HDMI and stuff I really don't need...

But with the stuff I have now, I need to be able to connect my PC ( either through analog, or optical/coax)
An mp3 player/phone easily in with a 3.5mm or an RCA.
And I'd like to able to add a casette player and an lp player to that...

What model are those specs of, it sounds good...

The specs I posted was for the Onkyo TX-SR605 which I bought for £135.:D

I wasn't bothered about the video side, just the audio. You will find that true 5.1 and 7.1 amplifiers are few and far between and that you need an AV receiver or home cinema amplifier.

As for your "extra" requests I am not knowledgeable tnough to help you. I bought what I needed for myself.

Perhaps start a thread in the home cinema forum on here and they will be able to help you more.

Thanks, it looks like a great amp for me, but the problem is, availability.
The only one there anywhere near me is in Antwerp, Belgium, for 300€.

I mean, Antwerp is not that far again, only an hour drive, 65 ish miles, but still... Would love to get that in the next few months, perhaps B'day pressie for myself in april :D. Getting tired how a cheapo 150€ 4 channel amp + 12'' sub+ 8'' speakers in my car sounds better than my sound in my room ( z5500's).

Don't worry snowdog, an integrated amp will have far more connections than z5500. They usually have about 3-5 optical/coaxial digital inputs, 5+ rca analoges (cd/lp/cassette/ipod) etc.

Coupled with some decent small bookshelf speakers and a sub, you will have a cracking system. I would advise spending a bit more on a sub, as the z5500 one is pretty. Most people who haven't heard anything else think it rocks, but in essence it is a wobbly mess. Something like a BK Gemini/xls200 sub (2nd hand off avforums) coupled with an onkyo av-receveir and 5 small bookshelfs will show you how rubbish the z5500 really are. The system will cost more, but you really do get what you pay for. £500 would be a great budget to have to play with!
