logitech Z-5500's...

That's a hardware related problem, there's no way you could perform a firmware update for a speaker system tbh lol. If you're having popping noises contact logitech and they will help you, they've got great customer service from personal experience(they replaced my unit that was popping free of charge even out of warranty).

Apparently they sound worse, but take a look at some reviews as i think each one is a bit different. Yeah only learnt about the firmware update through thier support, but solved a couple of issues for me (popping noise etc) and also i swear theyve gotten louder

5.1 surround now works from my wii too which is very nice :)

how did you update then? Can you provide a link?

I've still got the 680's, must have had them 6 or 7 years. Still going strong except for power button on control console is broken so I have to power on and off via the remote. Never tried customer support, maybe they'd have a spare control unit lying around somewhere, might give'em a bell one day.

I think they told me to press input and settings button together for 10 seconds. Thats if i remember correctly.

If you email thier support though they'll likely tell you the same as they told me.

edit: apprently this doesn't do a firmware update, it changes the mode or something. Sorry guys :( the light colour on mine changed and i got a couple more options, so i figured it was.

even so, give it a go as it definately solved all my issues.

what about a set off mega works 650D's for £17 ? lol thats what i got a set for off the bay as it was collection only lol and they are imense they might not have the inputs as they are only computer speakers but iam sure they will match the z5500 would highly surgest looking for some second hand megaworks as most peopel look for the name gigaworks as they changed there names but still to date the best set off speakers i have ever heard is the gigaworks s750's completly trounces my m8s dads £1000 sony set up only down side is there not made any more :(

I have the Z5500 and although the sub is amazingly powerful, if you turn down the bass on the control unit it no where near "over powering."

Totally agree with this guy, have the same with the z2300 and z623, you turn that bass down and they dont sound very nice

I have the gigaworks downstairs. The bass is accurate, more so than Logitech in reviews, music is very good and movies excellent.

If I were to replace the gigaworks I'd get the Edifier 2.1 or 5.1 sets for the best possible sound quality.

I would avoid Logitech which sacrifice sound quality for gimmicks such as fancy lit-up controls and digital connections.

sorry to hear that your set lacks cool peripherals :D

z5500 are mint.. just got some from logitech for £140.. bass is overpowering but well worth the money especially for their customer service if anything gones wrong with them

They sound far, far, far better when you block the port on the sub.

ive had mine for 3+ years now too, love them, they lasted quite a while after heavy use.. when they broke i was gutted as the price is now huge, but logitech replaced them even when they are out of the warranty!! I would pay for them again now, thats how much i love them

I've been offered a set of these for £100.

I was looking for a new set of speakers anyway but was ideally looking for the z2300 ( less wires ).

Do you think they are worth getting for that price? Like stated above im scared the Bass will become too overpowering even on low :D

Mate there is a Sub Volume. you can turn it to 0 and it completely turns it off.
