i finally upgraded from trusty xp32 to vista ultimate 64.

installed, after it doesnt detect sata drives, but curiously sata dvdr's are fine, onto an old ide drive.

updated chipset drivers from the cd with motherboard, rebooted, and now i get this

the cure : reinstall vista x64.

not a good start!!!!

Windows has never detected SATA drives you'll have to download the drivers for it from the manufacturer if you want to set up a RAID array.

i dont, i just want to use my sata drive as primary drive!

Have you set your motherboard to detect it as an IDE drive?

nope!?

i just installed all my drivers and it BSOD'd with the same error and rebooted 4 times in a row.

Then it worked, downloading nvidia drivers and ie crashed then i got a different BSOD so now ive given up, am going to send it to a mate to sort it all out as i have no time!!!
