LOMAC - tips?

Just got this game and have played through all the UPT and A-10A training missions, found them all fairly straight forward. However, as soon as I jump into the A-10A campaign, I just can't do it :(

I'm finding the first mission really tough; there are countless AAA and SAM emplacements. I usually manage to get one or two kills on these with the Mavericks, just as I get into range, but I'm then invariably shot down by the SAMs or MiG-29s :confused:

Any tips?
 
Also, do dodge sam's etc, try and face the on coming missile and then break quite sharp when getting close. Drop some counter measures and do a little roll as well. HOPEFULLY, it should fly straight past your six as you pull away at an angle. :) If in doubt just go c-raaaaahhh-zy while shouting "GOOOOOSSEEE NOOOOO". :p

use your Mavericks to kill the Strelas from maximum range (~6km) - as OzZie says, get a lock, fire at max range range and bank hard away, avoiding the IGLAs. Rinse and repeat for the others.

The ZSUs are a little harder - use your Mavericks on them too, then switch to your main gun. I use bombs to kill the IGLAs (because they're a bugger to hit), and then you should be clear to engage the bimps using your gun.

I find it also helps to unleash your wingman against the ground defenses.
 
I try and use IR maveriks where possible due to the extreded range and increased zoom and means you can break away quicker.

Also, use ironhands training website for all other aspects of the game. (note: you will need to grab the correct versions if you are downloading the ingame videos and not just a simple avi file)

Thanks for the tips all, I'll give them a go :)

As for giving wingmen commands, the backslash key doesn't do anything. I've checked that it's assigned to the right thing in the input options, but it just doesn't do anything :confused:

Is there something I'm doing wrong?
 
Ironhand is the king of Lomac training. Some tutorials are in video form and don't need lomac installed to view. Others are ingame tracks for particular versions. A 1.01 track may not play correctly on a 1.02 install e.t.c.

If you are using labels, turn them off :p They're a crutch and it is far more satisfying to locate and engage hostiles with the MK1 Eyeball ( and onboard instruments ). You can also be surprised, sometimes unpleasantly :D

Before you fly, look at the planning map and make a note of any bad guy positions in relation to your waypoints.

In the air, the RWR ( radar warning receiver ) is your friend. Ironhand has a tutorial entitled "INTERPRETING AND USING THE A-10's WARNING SYSTEM" in the Flight basics section.
