Got a work placement in London for two weeks, in mid June. However living in Newcastle/Chester I don't have a clue on where to get temporary accommodation, especially in the summer and unfortunately don't know anybody who lives nearby.

How hard is it to get some temporary accommodation? The postcode is EC1M 4DT.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should be fairly easy, a lot of the universities hire out their halls of residence during the summer - I stayed in one in Tooting (avoid btw) when I first moved down there. See if you can get hold of a copy of Loot (I think there's an online version) and check the accomodation ads. You'll probably have to commute to EC1, my advice would be to check which tube lines your work is close to and look for places on a same line.

Cheers for the replies. Didn't think of Halls, surely they will be quite expensive though? Barbican is the nearest tube station. Will just have to find a hostel or something which is near a tube station. Bit clueless as I have never been to London. Bit daunting.

Well, like Newcastle it has an underground train system, slums and pregnant teenagers. A home away from home really ;)

In all seriousness, its just like a big town.. some parts of it can be daunting like oxford st, but there's no obvious danger.

You wouldn't know your way around any other town either, would it stop you going?

Its made easier with the tube - but most of the "sights" in central london are surprisingly close together.
