London - Apprehensive about Visiting

Hi there,

Previously unknown to me, my Mrs has booked us a weekend away in London, with an evening seeing a West End Show.

While I'm really looking forward to it, I have some real reservations about going - namely - there was an attempted terrorist attack there last weekend, and in addition to that it will be 7/7/7 which may be a date that Jihadists may want to add to their calendar of atrocities.

Does it sound like I'm worrying about nothing, or would it be wiser to go in a month or two's time when things have maybe died down a little?

Cheers

HaX

Oh for gods sake, why?

Thats exactly what the terrorists want to happen.

Just go, live life, enjoy it! :)

You can't not do stuff "just in case" something happens.

What if.....

Get on with it!

You are a classic case of the manipulation working, the government want you to be in this frame of mind to make it easier to control you. On the other side, the terrorists also want you to feel like this because it means their methods are working.

You are more likely to drown in the bath than to have your internals smothered across a London street from a terrorist bomb. Stop being such a great big girl.

Am in a similar situation am in London this weekend also.

If you feel in danger go to the Imperial War museum, they have tanks and things.

Now that is a good idea! You could also spend the weekend on HMS Belfast, either way your surrounded by military grade armour! :D

Yes.

I've worked in central London since 1990, so plenty of IRA/loonie Jihadist bombs in that time. Typical reaction of a London commuter following a bomb going off is to get REALLY annoyed when they close your tube line down. Other than that, most people don't really give a monkeys.

MW

Me too! :)

07/07/07 holds a much more terrifying prospect than Jihadist wrath.
The Tour De France is being started in London at the weekend and we are going to be overrun by thousands of French cycling fans.

But to be serious, since I have been working in and around London (from 1986), I can hardly remember a time when someone wasn't trying to blow bits of it up. I don't give it a second thought, and as has been noted already, you probably have more chance of dying crossing the road each day than you will have of being a terror victim in London.

Dont worry about terrorists.... you are more likely to get knocked down by an r-tard cyclist that doesnt realise that traffic rules and the Highway code apply to them.

(yes I nearly got knocked down AGAIN at Holborn cross because of some stupid ****ing **** wit decided that a red light does not apply to cyclists.)

It's a right pain in the bum - we get rid of one lot and then another bunch come along.

Who next? Cornish Extremists? Radicalist Mormons?

You'd have thought they'd have learned by now.....WE'RE, NOT, BOVERED.

Ain't that the truth, I 'unfortunately' missed one of these fools jumping a light this very morning.

True. I work in North London at the moment and don't need to travel on the Tube, but I had to travel into Victoria from 1990 to 1998 on the Tube. In 1991 there was a bomb that went off in Victoria station and I missed it by a few minutes. The funny thing was that when the tube pulled into Green Park [one stop before Victoria for those that don't know] and the tube driver announced that Victoria had been closed because of a bomb going off, the reaction of all the passengers was not horror but a loud exclamation of "oh ****!" because they now had to find alternative routes to work.

People in London really don't care about bombs. We couldn't give a monkey's. When a bomb goes all in Central London all we do is look at our Tube maps and work out which alternative line we're going to use to get to our destination.

In the 1980s it was the IRA, in the 1990s it was the IRA and David Copeland, in the 2000s it's some Muslim extremists - it never stops. You just get on with your life. Do I know anyone who's been caught in a blast? No. Do I know anyone who's seen one? No. But I know two people whose houses have been struck by lightning while they were sleeping.

In all fairness to them, three or four cyclists have been killed recently because they decided to obey traffic signals and wait at red lights. A lorry next to them turned a corner and crushed them into a barrier. :(

To the OP: Stop being such a pussy.

Where can I find this lorry driver and shake his hand?

My aunty is flying out to America (Florida) on the 7/7/7... I'd be more worried about flying. Although the safety checks at the moment make it pretty hard for terrorists getting on a plane. I think I'd be more worried about the que time to go through the safety checks...

I seriously dont understand people like this... I mean we had the IRA for years doing things like this... yes they did give warnings but still terrorists and all!
