London Heathrow Emergency Landing

Official updates no, do we know what happened yes. You will have to wait for the official report/findings now.

You think you know what happened.

EDIT: Reading my reply again it sounds a bit off. I'm not trying to be pompous or anything, I just want to bring the discussion back to earth and remind everyone that whilst the rumour mill is often along the right tracks, important information and detail is missing. I have seen the effect at work. Even those directly involved with the incident are unsure of what exactly happened because there have been so many rumours and so called "facts" preached on the grapevine. This is one of the reasons anyone involved will be interviewed by an investigator ASAP.

No we knew what happened, we get this information quicker than the public so we can take the required measures. I knew the facts, not the rumour.

Anyway it's official now so here you go, as I said.

As I said in the beginning it's just a case of who get's the blame now and for me it will be interesting to see. The engineers who signed for the Cowls being shut ( A duplicate inspection usually on V2500) or the Bus driver for not checking on his walk round. If it is a duplicate insp at BA then I imagine two engineers have already lost their approval.

Do you know of any similar incidents and how the blame was apportioned? I've often wondered if the pilot walk round is genuinely thorough - or just a perfunctory gesture.

I have no idea about the aviation sector but what are the likely repercussions?

I would have thought this sort of thing would result in serious disciplinary and 're-training' or pretty swift dismissal.

Well yeah I personally worked with the guy who signed off the Helios flight and talked to them over the radio when they had 'pressurisation problems' so have some idea of how they apportion blame ;)

It took him 8 years, the threat of deportation and jail to finally clear his name.

Sod all for the Pilot who missed on the walkround and is the last check. Probably a medal for flying a perfectly stable aircraft in with a nice touchdown. ;)

The engineers will have their apppoval removed and if the CAA get involved potentially not be able to certify for a period of time due to the high profile nature of the incident.

I'm sure there will be a whole investigation into workload, night shift working etc.
