Hello good people,

im whisking the wife away down to the big smoke at the end of july, there are literally hundreds of restaurants and i cant make my mind up which to choose.

we like most types of food (not seafood though)

can anyone suggest anywhere?

depends where you are when you're hungry. Lots of great places so no real point commuting too far for your supper. also any price range?

Saying that:

I'd suggest Ev (if you like Turkish food). It's part of a small chain but their Ev restaurant has a great outdoor seating area that will be great in the early evening. It's just behind Southwark tube, under railway arches and next to a small row of bars and lots of plants etc.

Pizza Express on the south bank overlooking St Pauls and the river at night. Go upstairs and get a window table. And it's cheap! This is a serious suggestion. (Zizzi is next door but fewer window seats)

Thanks, we're travelling from gloucester for the night so i dont mind getting the tube to other places.

well ive been looking at the OXO tower restaurant. the lack of items on the menu is putting me off at the moment. i guess thats my budget.

yeh around £100 pp would be about right for that place..

its just a lacking menu. which seems to be the case with more expensive place.

i want really good quality food, good service and nice beer. i dont mind how cheap but dont really want anything over £100pp.

thanks, looks french though.

not really a fan of french cuisine. (sorry should have put that in my first post too)

so you want a really good meal experience, around £100 pp, serves great beer at the table, doesn't focus on seafood and isn't a French style menu?

anything I've missed? :D

there's some excellent foody pubs that serve good beer. One I really like is the Grapes at Limehouse. http://www.thegrapes.co.uk/menu.php?id=2

The dining room is upstairs and overlooks the thames. You will probably need to book. The regular beer is Adnams and Tim Taylor's landlord (not a fan of Adnams but Landlord I quite like) but they also do nice wine.

you could get a boat along the river down to Canary wharf and it's only a 10min walk back along the river from there. There's a couple of other good pubs there with great reviews for their food but I've not been.

edit: menu seems a little shorter than I remember. Yeah scratch that idea looks like someone's taken it over

You could try Roast at Borough Market.

Roast is very good. Plus, just opposite is the Market Porter pub with around 8+ real ales or the Wheatsheaf next door if you want a little more modern. The Rake around the corner is more of a "boutique" craft beer bar.

you could even look at the Shard restaurants now they're open (but no menus or more worryingly prices)

here's what looks like someone who has been paid to review aqua shard: http://alexloves.com/2013/06/restaurant-review-aqua-shard-london/

I've not seen a good review for Oblix yet, but Hutong is meant to be pretty good. You ain't gonna get a table at the Ledbury on that notice unless you're very lucky, but it is amazing.

The best value lunch deal in London is probably at Hedone in Chiswick. It's up there with the best restaurants in London - the bread is worth a visit alone, and they do a very good saturday lunch

You won't be able to make a telephone booking though! Apparently it's amazing there - it's definitely on the list.
