loneliness is as bad for you as smoking 15 cigarettes a day

i remember hearing once that if you give up smoking your lungs do partially regenerate/heal. so...

No, you feel better but your lungs never go back to the same. In fact, even after you quit smoking, you have a much stronger risk of suffering from lung cancer then someone who never smoked before.

Obviously this only applies for people who smoked for 20+ years, I'm not saying just because you were a bit of a rebel when you were a teenager doesn't mean you're going to get lung cancer :P

, how can this be a valid statement , lonelyness dosent damage anything

why not?
of course it can, high blood pressure and the rest. as said you can't seprate physical from mental. they are one and the same.

things like depression causes all sorts of chemical imbalances which cause physical symptoms from cardiovascular system to the immune system/.

Well obviously they wont be "exactly" the same again i didnt say that.. i said partially heal which is true.

My granddad smoked 40 a day for 60 years, he had no lung cancer or problems related to smoking.. Old age got him not any cancer. Saying that my grandmother never smoked led a healthy life and shes beaten 2 cancers. Ive smoked for 17 years and i have no problem with my breathing or health (Just lung capacity down abit according to the doctor but nothing to worry about). So horses for courses mate you could be worrying about all the bad things in life and a car runs you over tomorrow. Personally i believe in moderation, we all know that much too of the good things in life is likely to kill you over time.

A car wont run you over tomorrow if you have eyes, well i know i wont ever get runover so i dont know why you say that....altho ive seen a lad run out infront of a bus so you're theory could be true, only to stupid people.

I dont believe you can die from a broken heart unless its suicide :) , mental stuff can self heal as long as the psyical body is not injured.

You can, its very rare but does happen is known as broken-heart-syndrome or sress-induced cardiomyopathy. is similar to a myocardial infarction or heart attack. Its truly amazing the impact of psychological factors can have on the physical.

Just lol, would love to see someone who smokes 15 a day try running for a few minutes they would probably look dead.

I find being alone a lot less stressful than being around others all the time, but it wouldn't be nice being lonely all the time. It also says in the article "It was as harmful as not exercising and twice as bad for the health as being obese." Yet more BS.

I don't know how anyone can think the stress, loneliness, etc don't have physical effects. Whenever I am badly stressed I get small eczema patches and my psoriasis flares up.

We moved to New Zealand just over a year ago and within just a few months of less stress my psoriasis (which had been present for 3+ years) had practically disappeared. I put this down entirely to leaving my old job and lifestyle where I was almost constantly stressed and pretty unhappy.

If it can have such a marked difference on my skin then I think it's very unlikely that my internals aren't happier as well!

Unless you are an intj so couldn't give a monkeys about being 'alone'

Half the god damn internet is an INTJ so there's no loneliness in that.

I'd say it's rubbish anyway as your body will recover from the effects of loneliness much faster than it will from smoking. In fact you can use the money you save from smoking to go out and find (or buy) friends. Even better find a social circle where the common pastime doesn't shorten your life expectency (or make you smell).

what if your a lonely smoker? surely that can't be good!

I don't know of anyone ordering their fags online, it usually forces people to go outside, and automatically, socializing happens when you get some smokes or when you smoke ( provided someone doesn't smoke inside, abotu half the smokers I know would never smoke inside and always go outside). 2 of my indirect neighbors often sat in their front yard having a smoke, now they always sit together having smoke and come over to each other all the time.
