Don't supose you have expereince in the Oz ones do you ??

I knew they used to be the benchmark , but its been a while since I bought one.

Anyone else know anymore info??

TBH, if I'm going anywhere for a decent length of time I get the Lonely Planet, Rough Guide and then either the Footprints or Eyewitness.

They all have their pros and cons, I'd pop into a bookshop and see which one suits you best.

Pfft, that's overkill imo.

They tend to be good for travel info and the like but try not to stick to them too rigidly in planning any trips - you tend to just stumble upon the best places in my experience.

Got one for Brazil and thought it was rubbish, have been using Rough Guides and Eyewitness Travel and thought they were much better.

Each to their own, but I don't really see it as a major expense and it's can't hurt. LP is good for accommodation, RG is good for eating and Eyewitness is very good for maps and walking.

I'll usually only take two of the three away with me (one each for the wife and i).

I'll be backpacking/camping so I can barely justify the weight of one, let alone more. :o

if you are going to oz, dont buy the lonely planet book until you get there, you will find 100s in the 2nd hand book shops that tons of travelers have off loaded over the years

ps

your best source of information out there will be other backpackers

That was the reason I want it before I go , So I can have a read up on Oz before I go.

I assumed the best source of info would be other backbackers
