Finally, I have a full bike licence! (excuse the spelling if it's wrong - never looks right to me)

So, I need to go shopping - I have little to no preference as to a style of bike though a sports bike would probably be out as the missus doesn't want to sit up high.

What I'm looking for is somewhere I can go this week and drool... Any decent places around Leicester/Nottingham? The bigger the better really as I want as much choice as possible.

Thanks guys :)

Firstly gratz.

Secondly, come on man throw us a bone :D what sort of bike interests you and how much do you plan on spending? By full do you mean any bike or are you restricted in your power output in anyway?

This BMW F650GS is a touring style bike where you'd be sat upright

This is an ER6f (I have one) and though looks a bit like a sports bike is actually a sports tourer with a mostly upright seating position

Or maybe a cruiser type, maybe you see yourself as Marlon Brando in The Wild One

Whatever you prefer have a look at this website which will give you an indication of what most models of bike will be like for you

i'd go with something like the ER6 if you want a sports bike but missus doesn't, dad has one and i don't sit to high on the back even being 6ft. also quite a lot of power for you when you're on your own

Congrats, might also be worth having a look at a SV650S, best of both worlds and more a sports tourer seating position, although the ER6 is a fantastic bike for the money.

How about a naked like a street triple/gladious?

As for leicester, castledine suzuki, stratstone triumph, kawasaki leicester (although the guy is a knob), Arnolds (Yamaha) are the ones I know. Plenty of choice within a few miles of eachother.

Arnolds is on my watch list as they have a bike I am interested in, though it's the wrong colour.

Gratz! :)

CMC Clay Cross has a large selection of new and used bikes of all types. You could have a sit on all sorts, plus have an all day breakfast and cup o' cha while you're there ;)

great stuff guys - some names are familiar. I have no restrictions on which bike I ride so anything goes (in theory).

I currently ride a varadero 125 so the style of the BMW is familiar. Comfortable I think is the word. However, I took the test on a new XJ6N (in fact I rode it for 100 of its 106 miles on the clock) and found it surprisingly comfy too but not in the same way. I suppose the only way to find out is through very thorough testing :P

Congratz on passing great feeling a.

If I was you I'd go round a few dealers & get some test rides as you really don't know what bike you want until you've ridden one.
Are you buying New or 2nd hand ?

We have around 4 shops in Hinckley to poke about at & then there's the Yammy dealer in Bedworth & a few small ones in Nuneaton. :)

Congratulations.

You also need to think about engine preference, personally I wasn't a fan of the BMW flat twin. I started off with a triple which sounds good but is not for everyone, now have an inline four which I love to be honest.

Are you after a high revving 500/650 where you have to work harder, or the lazier but powerful 1000cc plus?

Check out the Suzuki GSX 1250 FA, good value bike.

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like I'll be testing some this weekend. I like the look of the er6f, my local shop had one in bright orange and it looked the mutts. I also saw a triumph sprint st 1050 which although was a bigger (it had full luggage on at the time) looked good... seems to have been sold since though~!

I'll have a look around in Notts as I'm that way on saturday morning anyways and leicester will be in the afternoon me thinks. I'll keep the thread updated and will post in the new bikes thread in the near future *fingers crossed*

Congrats on passing!

Have a look at the Honda VFR 800 vtec. Get a top box with the pillion padding so the missus can lean back and enjoy the ride too.

quick update- I took a trip to CMC in nottingham and thought the selection isn't huge I did like the look of the new xj6f but a bit out of my price range. Not exactly a massive tourer but I suppose it's near enough what I'm used to now with the xj6n I rode for the test.

Also stopped at beechdale bikes, they had a gsxf750 I wanted to look at but wasn't my taste really.

Looks like my dad is going to sell me his bike as a stop gap as he needs to get rid and I can't decide, so I'll post pics as and when :)
