Long distance commuters

I commute 170 miles or so each way, but thankfully I only have to do it twice a week.

Unfortunately though it does mean I am away from home 5 days a week, which sucks. :o

Does mean I do in excess of 2000 miles a month, what with travelling to and from places for work during the week. Thankfully though, everything is paid for and it doesn't cost me a jot.

Especially as it includes Totnes :D

Indeed, went into work late this morning as I needed to wait for a parcel and it took an hour to get through Totnes to Paignton, total journey time was nearly 1 1/2 hours :(

If I had a do a 30 mile commute on reasonably uncongested dual carriageway it would be a breeze.

17 and a bit miles each way, but only during term time. It's also about 95% single carriageway and motorway, so it takes about 18-20 minutes at 8am.

5 miles each way, but it's through the city. Takes me about 20 minutes to get to work in the morning (7AM ish) and 40 minutes to get home afterwards (5PM ish).

I don't mind the drive though.

120 mile round commute at the moment. 60 each way.

up at 5:30am, an hour in the car... start work at 7am, finish at 7pm.... home for 8-8.30pm....

well, im just the co pilot :) i get driven there every day.... its pretty grim by thus-fri :(

I did 100 miles a day when I worked at ocuk, wasnt to bad, bit of a crappy road aka A50, was just costing to much per day.

I am so glad my 9 month commute ended at Dartington. It was only the evenings I had to fight through Totnes and by the time I came back through it was 1-2am so I could just blast through.

I did 140miles a day for a month or two last year. I enjoyed the M77 part of the journey but the M8 commute from Glasgow to Edinburgh was incredibly boring! I aimed to be in Edinburgh for 7am every morning so i missed the worst of the traffic. It was worse on the way back when i hit Glasgow rush hour every day :(
Commuting via road to Edinburgh sucks. I swear it feels like I spend just as much time slugging across town to actually reach the motorway as I do travelling on it!

takes about hour to do, first 2months it was hard now i'm soo used to it, it seems normal, having a bigger car makes the drive a lot more comfortable. I went from a fiat bravo - 205 size to a mazda 3 - same as a focus, and the differance on motorway and any long distance is massive so i hightly recommend a larger car for it

the fiat bravo and mazda 3 are the same size. a 205 is tiny

perhaps it's just a more pleasant experience because the mazda is a nicer place to be :p

I've being doing a 100 mile round trip to North London for a year now.

I don't mind it at all. Its 90% Motorway for me and takes 45 minutes. It gives me time to wind up and down.

I bought a cheap Pug 206 1.4 HDi for the job (650 miles to a tank & £35 road tax) It costs me around ~£40 a week. For me its better than sitting on the train. I'm not bothered about putting miles on the car, its just to commute.

I got a speeding ticket for "blasting" through Totnes at 6:30AM the first month I started working. Apparently I hit almost 40mph going over the bridge

I do a 15 mile trip to work so that's 30 miles in total when I do work.

30 miles isn't much and is bearable in a Focus. But I might have an oppertunity to expand my career next year which will involve commuting from home (East London) to Milton Keynes which is a 73 mile one way trip - using the M25 too! That's an hour and 25 minute journey according to Google maps :(
Not looking forward to that journey. But gives me an excuse to buy something more comfortable :)

17-8 miles a day for me on the bike. 9 miles in 35mins.

Quite the bike trip.

20 motorway miles either way for me, takes roughly 20 minutes.....in an ideal world, obviously. The M8 is absolutely horrendous, even when trying to beat rush hour traffic.

Not sure what effect the miles are having on the clio however, not much I hope.
