Ever been anywhere that was a complete waste of time and effort?
I have today. :D
An hour and a half drive from Cheltenham to the far side of cheddar for a rock climbing experience day...
A catalogue of things conspired against me in this taking place today.
Traffic was solid through Bristol.
My boss has borrowed my Sat nav to go to Sweden on Monday.
Trying to rely on google maps directions via the phone in an area where the signal is patchy at best.
I made numerous wrong turns and ended up getting to the meeting point 10 mins late. No sign of anyone...
I didnt have a number saved for the organiser either.
Best thing I could think of is to leave a message on the forum where it was organised. Sadly to no reply.
So I am sat here in a layby by the M4 with nothing better to do than watch my butty van cup of coffee steam the windscreen up.
Nice burger though :)
Oh joyous Sunday....

It looks that way.
I did think about stopping in Bath on the way back for a bit of retail therapy, but I'm in a bit of a mood lol.

Oh well, home James..... (nice day for a drive anyway)

Bradford last week, left Sheffield at 6:30 got on the M1. Traffic wasn't major but it was building up. Turned on to the M62 and stopped, 8am stopped on the M62 sliproad (which is plenty of time to get to Bradford for a 8:40 interview)

8:30am, still on the sliproad, managed to call the person interviewer to tell them I was going to be late, they said if I can't get here before 9, then turn around and we'll reschedule.

9:10am, I finally get onto the M62 to turn off at the first exit. Back home for 10am

That was the most pointless journey I've done.

Going to do the same tomorrow but avoid the M1 and M62 lol

The longest and most pointless journey ever made in the history of mankind, was recently made by my GF's parents, who clearly have more money than sense. I kid you not, they both flew to New Zealand for one day to look at a motor home. They have now purchased said motor home and are happily driving round New Zealand in it, but they have only just gone and they bought it 2 months ago!

Unfortunate OP!

I went to the Cheviot not too long ago which is about 55 miles away from my house.

Had a fantastic day then drove home. Upon pulling up outside my house realised I had left my boots in the damn car park.

Put another £20 in the car and went back to get them.

Lesson learned.

What's pointless about that?

I drove from Devon to Kent and back a few years ago to pick up an engine that turned out to be nothing like the one he has "sold" me, it should have been a TD5 with 4HP22 auto box....it was an old 200tdi with crap box on the back -completely useless.

Cost me a whole day of driving and 1.5 tanks of fuel (£150+) as I had the car trailer on the back too! I wasnt happy.

Flying half-way round the world for one day to buy something 2 months in advance of needing it is madness. It is a new motor home they will use for 6 months and then sell it. Why they did not just check out the same model one in the UK and just buy it over the phone?

Would you buy a car without looking at it in person?

Yep, a few years ago I was sent to Mexico for work 'just in case' I was needed if anything went wrong. This was the 4th launch so it was unlikely. Spent 2weeks there bored out of my mind and as I predicted wasn't needed. Still I saw a few sights while there and perfected my minesweeper skills (this was pre Facebook or reddit).

Was a mates +1 at a wedding a few years back, didnt even know the people getting married!

Drove from the Midlands to Elgin (top of Scotland) on a friday afternoon, arrived about 10pm and went up town.
Wedding saturday afternoon/evening and up town saturday night.
Drove back Sunday.

20+ hours driving over 2 1/2 days for a few beers and a wedding where I knew one person, never again!

:p

If it was a brand new car on the other side of the World (but I could test drive the same model here) then yes, I suspect I would rather than taking such a large trip. If I've got a private jet then all bets are off as I might arrange to fly round the World a couple of times just for the sake of it.

Where does it say that they bought a brand new one? I presumed that as they were only using it for 6 months (taking the assumption that they're not mentally deficient) they bought second hand. They'd certainly be mental to buy an motorhome second hand unseen when they were planning to do a once in a lifetime 6 month road trip in it..

Did similar in just one day. Drove up to a holiday cottage we had booked online. When we got there the place was an absolute dump so we just drove home again. Left home at 5am got home at 11pm epic waste of time and money:eek:
