Longest time out of work?

I've never quite understood this notion of people not employing you because you're over-qualified. Surely if one is 'over-qualified' one would be more inclined to give said person a job?

Being over-qualified means you are more likely to move on sooner if you take a role beneath you, or something.

Yep. Evidence, theory and experience would suggest an over qualified person may find the job boring, not challenging, too simple, etc and this results in leaving the organisation or being a negative staff.

So companies would rather not waste recruitment costs on such people.

Acid is right; dumb down your CV and lie. This is not bad because you are not over selling yourself, you are under selling to guarantee the job you want/need. The only thing to remember is it may be boring, not challenging, etc and imo it is unfair if you plan to stay just for a few weeks.

I've been working (albeit part time jobs) since I was 8 (22 now). I usually do a fair bit of over time and over holidays I do extra hours. Only time i've taken off is when doing volunteer work and also the first two months for when I moved to uni.

Ah, of course. Makes a lot more sense :)

Zero months since I was 16. Fair doos if you can afford it, or your current job is so gash it forces you to leave - but I love the pennies and at this stage in my life could not afford to miss a pay cheque.

I've been out of work for 19 years. :D

... never had a job.

get a paper round slacker :p

not even two months and its ****ing depressing as my contract was great (QA on a lego game that cam out resently and ive not been out of work since i started (even through uni i worked) finding it hard to get a reply from a app for anything but a shelf stacker.

Post your CV here - plenty of people can help.

You have to make sure it is tailored to the job you apply for eg. being a good administrator is useless in a call centre driven by targets and customer service quality. A little rewording would do no harm as long as you feel competent and confident you can do the job.

4 hours. Contract ended on the Friday, pimped myself around the agencies on the Monday morning and started the next job at 1pm the same day.

Since then the jobs have been consecutive.

3 - 4 months i think.

Currently been out of work nearly 2 months i guess. Not good.

well... to be honest. i lie... its summer :D

2 months after a dropped out of uni, since then ive only had 1 week where i was not employed

ok its temp work, but money is money and it pays better than being roped into retail

no i do not plan on doing it for the rest of my life and should find out soon(tm) about a prospect for a small IT firm

never been out of work, after doing a BTEC I should have gone to UNI 10 years ago. Ive been in my current job a very long time. Prevoiusly when Ive had to change jobs ive found them instantly.

Downside now I have a mortage, theres payment protection which wouldnt do much, however if i lost this job or got made redundent i would have to go and get a job pretty much straight away, providing that it pays the bills.

Solution for me would be an agency whilst I am looking for a more ideal job.
