Longest time without sleep?

Between 30-40 hours. Experimenting w/sleeping patterns when I started doing the shift work this job requires, moving from days to nights to days to nights every week. Generally avoid stretches like that now I'm well settled, and will sleep whenever I get the chance.

Forgive the ignorance, but I thought you couldn't live without sleep?

e.g. I thought if you stayed awake for 7 days straight, you'd die

(wow I sound like a 7 year old lol)

48ish
Was up all day then just before I was about to go to bed got a call from the boss asking if I wanted some work, which turned out to be an 18hour shift on my feet.
Finished that met some mates at the pub and 2 beers in I was gone, cheapest night ever :D

43 hours, 5 weeks and 4 days ago when my son was born. Woke at 6am on the Tuesday expecting a normal day. Went to my parents for dinner and at about 7pm my girlfriend says 'either i just wet myself or my waters broke' so off to hospital, baby Bertie born at 1.50am then spent the rest of the night and next day feeling amazing, cuddling Bertie and supporting my girlfriend. Got home about 10pm that night and fell in bed knackered at about 11pm. Driving home was not good.

Makes me laugh how people struggle to sleep at festivals, I never struggle to get a full 8 hours at Download, despite the noise, I bet I could sleep through an earth quake

I've probably never really gone much longer than 22 hours without any sleep... Although I've gone longer with only very small amounts of sleep.

Probably the longest single stretch was from about 7:30 one morning to 7AM the next while I did some lab report, although I'm not quite sure if I dozed off for 20 minutes around 5AM. Anyway, went to bed at 7AM, got up at 8AM, went to all my lectures, feeling a massive buzz all day, had an hours nap before dinner, and other than that was normal all day.

I find that after initial tiredness has worn off I get what feels like a constant adrenaline rush and feel very awake, alert, and motivated as long as I keep myself occupied. My hands shake a little, but that seems to be it really.

Im wondering if i can beat mine this weekend/week to be honest, Been up since 8am on Saturday so im on 34 hours now. To say i have become incapable is an under-statement i won't drive or go far just incase.

Working nights, I regularly go around 36 hours without sleeping. Longest is probably not much more than that though tbh, as I try and sleep as regularly as I can.
