Longest Warranty Period

All the Seagate drives seem to come with 5 year warrantys.

Most other drivees only come with 3 year Warrantys, except "performance" drives like the Raptors, which are also 5 years I think.

So I think Seagate is basically the answer to your question :)
 
Do you honesty think a 5 year old drive will be replacable in 5 years though?....

The warranty only looks good on paper, most drives will not be available by that time period, so its just another figure that really doesnt count, 3 years is easily acceptable for a warranty.

Someone else brought this up in another post so i thought about it and in reality they are totally right.

I wouldnt buy a drive just for the 5 year warranty.

So they will have to swap it out for whatever they can, meaning potentially you could end up with a much better product.
 
Look at what the MTBF is. This is a much better indicator of the life of the drive. The physical drive can be replaced, the data on it cant.

What good is a 5 year warranty if the drive breaks every year?

A lifetime warranty is crap, the lifetime is the life of the product, as soon as they stop making that product, it wont be replaced, they will tell you were to jump.

I would look at warranty times if it were for a business and running some sort of raid setup like raid 5 or something, that way if a drive dies then it can be replaced free of charge and no extra cost to the company.

If for personal use in a single drive operations, warranty isn't that important, if you don't mind loosing data go for the extended warranty over the more reliable HDD but as with anything, something can die anytime, it could die as soon as you get it or 6 months down the line or even 4 years down the line or even 15 years later and the drive is still running strong, nothing can be predicted.

Sorry but I'm sure that isn't right, if they offer you a lifetime warranty then they would replace it with there current model, they couldn't tell you just to go jump!
