@gradyhawks, it's like they covered it in polyester/nylon women's tights lol
and I agree the OCUK mouse mat is top notch, great value for money with decent materials. I cannot say the same for this wrist rest.

I can see where you are coming from concering the problems caused with it being 1" thick (25mm), but I thought it would be soft so would mould easily into place like a tempur mattress, but it's just too hard so the 13mm may be better in this respect.

Wrist rest has arrived. Black is black and stitching is good (same loose thread as Nik's where it starts/ends).

Similar problem on 2 corners where rubber mat is coming away. It's also concave with the left and right edges not actually touching the desk/mat underneath.

I agree with Twirlywoos the filling is definitely not soft, it's really quite firm in fact.
