I just looked up at the moon and it looks like there's a perfect circle of very light, wispy clouds with the moon in the very centre. Can anyone else see this?

Yup, almost overhead, it is a waxing gibbous Moon with 89% of the Moon illuminated. There will be a full moon on the 31st at 19:13. :)

Seriously. How many people do you think will read this in your town, county, country at the same time to see those clouds ?

I'm only a few hundred miles north of you - and the last time I noticed or have even seen the moon was 3 days ago at 3 PM (since then it has been clouded over). Even then, there were no wispy clouds.

Give me what you are smokin though - as it must be interesting enought to post about ;)

I was out a few hours ago trying out my new Astro binoculars (Celestron SkyMaster 15x70) so yes. But no, I didn't see that. Was a nice amount of detail, unfortunately Jupiter was behind a shed load of cloud so never got the chance to look. I was gonna pop out and have a squint at mars with them, but its too bloody cold.

positively the first time I have seen the word gibbous on an internet discussion forum, I looked at the sky earlier and tried to work out in my head when the full moon would be....

...fank ye simulatorchap :D

...and yes the moon had a halo, but I blame that mostly on the crud in the sky
