looking a decent NAS for file storage and streaming to my devices.
all current media is less than 2tb so something that supports about 4tb would be good for future expansion.

something not too dear but with decent features and easy to set up.

thanks for suggestions in advance.

Asustor, QNAP or Synology if you want off-the-shelf. A simple PC with two HDDs running NAS4free or Xpenology if you don't.

Pretty much what I was going to post. I did have a 4 bay QNAP I fixed after the PSU blew which cost me a whole £24 but as they are worth silly money even 2nd hand I sold it and use an older mini-tower Xeon system to run XPEnology instead.

If you want to do the media streaming with real time conversion then you'll might want to consider a modern NAS within budget.

Anandtech.com review them regularly.

Synology. Or roll your own with Xpenology.

Get's my vote.

Currently running Xpenology on Gen8 Microserver with 3 x 6TB WD Reds and an upgraded Xeon CPU to help with PLEX Transcoding.

If money was "no object" then I would probably buy a nice beefy Synology box but with my "bang-for-buck" head on then the above.
