Looking at buying a Noctua U14s for my X570 build

Hi all,

This cooler is the one I'm leaning towards buying for my new build but I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for.
I want to put this on a MSI X570 tomahawk with patriot viper steel ram (44mm tall) .
I just don't know if the cooler would interfere with the ram or not on this board or x570 boards in general.

Unfortunately this doesn't list my new motherboard in question. It does state only 41mm clearance which will be an issue if it does over hang. Its the first time I've bought taller ram. I didn't realise it was quite that tall.

3mm you should be able to move the fan up.

Take a look at these they are quality coolers and quiet , with 100% ram compatibility

Clearance could be less than that as it says:

On some LGA115x and AMD motherboards, the front fan may overhang the first RAM slot, so standard height RAM (up to 32mm) should be chosen when using the first slot.

I have the Noctua U14S, a new X570 MSI MEG Unify board and Teamgroup 8 pack RAM. Pretty sure it will fit fine, especially as its only 2 x 16GB sticks so the 1st lane next to the cooler will not be occupied. It might slightly cover the fan but dont think that matters much

Pics of my current U14, Z97X-gaming 7 and Kingston HyperX grey (4 x 4GB DDR3)

Yes, dusty i know. I'll all get a good clean when I switch to Zen 3 hopefully next week

Nice bit of photo work Guest2 !!

Bit of trivia; AMD CPU sockets have lots of room toward PCIe sockets but are only 49-50mm center CPU to near side of RAM sockets. Previous gen AMD have 52-53mm center CPU to near side of RAM sockets. Same for most Intel, but Intel is closer to PCIe sockets.

My issue is I have just bought 4x8gb 4133mhz at root viper steel, so I will be using all 4 slots.
I hate to say it but maybe an AIO might be a better solution for me as I assume they won't cause ram issues? Just frustrating as I really wanted the noctua u14s as it seems a really good performer for its size. I can spend more money but didn't see the point as this comes close to most big air coolers.

Just a thought. I currently have a Noctua nf-f12 pushing on my enermax t40. I know that would fit on the u14s and would potentially give another 20mm clearance. The u12s uses the same type of fan. I can only assume with the same fan the u14s would still perform better than the u12s as it has a larger heatsink. I can always use the a15 fan in pull position if I cant move it above the ram (if it doesn't clear it as standard).

That is from the centre of the cpu socket to the first dimm slot. I just downloaded both manuals. From your photos I'm not convinced that the u14s was 5mm away from your ram.
Any chance you can measure?

No probs re pics but sorry, i’m afraid not, the heatsink & fan are back in my intel system. It was pretty close, maybe 4 or 5mm.
Have you ordered 4 sticks of RAM or just 2?
I thought when using two sticks only you need to use slots 2 and 4. Or is it 1 & 3?

I have 4 sticks. You are right though. If it was only two then 2 and 4 are the ones to use. Oh how I wish we could measure it, lol. I may still take a punt on it.

It’ll be fine. Can the heatspreaders also could be unscrewed? (They can on the above ram)
