to go in whatever case i choose - see this thread. its going to be a high end pc, with emphasis on quietness and speed.

hardware now is amazingly cheap so this should actually cost me much at all. but whereas im quite at home going for intel if i want out and out speed, should i be considering AMD for these duties?

what i need, is a dual core cpu thats cheap as chips and i can clock the nuts off it if i want to. i want a graphics card that'll offload the decoding of hd video, probably 2gb of ram and a decent hard drive or two. hdmi graphics output would be nice. hd audio over hdmi is preferable of course, but as there isnt a single motherboard or graphics card out that can do that yet, im happy to resort to a decent sound card and using analogue outputs instead.

so what kit should i be looking at guys?there's no specific budget for this, but if i can get some right bargains thrown in id very much appreciate it

If you just wanted cheap then I'd probably be seriously considering AM2 but since you want to clock the CPU as well I still think Intel is the better option. The E2160 or E2180 for the higher multipliers. Geil PC6400 is a bargain on This Week Only but it depends on when you will be ordering what I'd suggest.

Sorry but the cases, HD and sound are outwith my knowledge really so I'd prefer to leave them for someone else. :)
