So last night i bought home my dads pc to try and sort it out as in the last few months its had some issues with HDD and then gfx dying...
plugged it into the wall last night to be greeted with a blue flash and nice burny smell....on inspection and from the direction of smell, the PSU has given me the middle finger.
the pc was simply plugged in to the wall and not turned on when this happened....so what are the chances that a huge surge didnt kill everything in the machine?
last time something like this happened it was the first real pc i ever owned back at college (AMD duron 700) so have boards had any extra fail safes included etc since then to supress any potential surges?
