Looking to replace 2 of my 500gb Seagates and would like to get the biggest drives I can get but her comes the dilema. I know there are only 2 to choose from, WD and Seagate, I really want the 7200rpm speed of the Seagate but seeing all the posts re problems (random pauses and drives dying...) and a bit reluctant to go ahead, make a purchase and thereby introduce problems into a system which currently works fine.

So, forum posse, what say you? And are there any new 1.5Tb drives coming in the pipe-line that would be worth waiting for?

If you want the largest, are you considering the 2tb ones? Although they are way out the price/gb ratio.
Even if I didn't have a few already, I'd get the Seagate over the WD because they're considerably cheaper, and data should be backed up anyway so it's better to get two cheaper drives and back up than one more expensive drive and not back up.
So assuming you're still using your 500GBs as backup (or vice versa, until you run out of space anyway), I'd get the Seagate because it's cheaper, and if you're not using them as backup, I'd get two of them because they're cheaper. Not RAID1 though.

starting to replace all my drives in my server with WD Green 1TB hdds (i have 3 500gb in there and an 720gb) run a lot cooler and have good random data access on them
