Hi guys I have a budget of about £200ish and would like to get myself a 22in widescreen monitor, it will mainly be used for PC gaming and the Xbox 360, I will normally be sitting at the desk when using it although occasionally might like to lie in bed to watch a movie so do not want to have a screen that looks rubbish unless right in front of it, anyway as I am totally clueless as to what is good and what is not hoping for some recommendations.

The 2 I had been looking at were

Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black

and

LG L226WTQ 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver

I quite like the LG one and would prefer a silver casing but its not that important.

The LG has better viewing angles incase you are not viewing squarely on centre, I dont have any experience with these two screens but if they were my only choices i'd get the LG :)

i have the LG and boy is it good :D and since its cheaper than the samsung you may aswell get the LG cos the difference between them will be very little.

Thanks did prefer the look of that one, how is the viewing angles?

Well it’s a TN panel but I can watch DVDs from my bed about 3m away when the monitor is about 1m above my head and see no change in the colour. One thing I love about this monitor is watching DVD rips (films of about 700mb not 4Gb+) about 1.5m away or more they look so clear.

I play a lot of games and have never seen any ghosting! The colours look so real. If you install the software that comes with it you can turn off the LED when watching movies or have it off all the time. But also even if you leave it on its not bright enough to distract you from anything i never notice it hehe

Literally took delivery of mine (Sammy 226bw) a couple hours ago, using it for the same PC/360 purpose. I can try to get some photos up later if you like MR Men with the two different inputs running and one shot from a few meters back to simulate from the bed watching.:)

Have you checked what panel it is?

Sweet that would be great, thanks, also let me know what you think of it :)

Thanks mate, sounds ideal would not be far away if ever watching a movie in bed so that all sounds great too :D

Well the stickers on them no longer indicate which panel you have and the service menu has also had the panel manufacturer removed so theres no way to tell for sure, but you can hazard a guess by looking for the flaws exhibited on the other panels.

This one appears to lack the blue dominance seen on the A panels and because there are apparently no longer any supply issues due to the panel fuss killing off sales I believe this to be an S panel. Regardless of which panel it is my first impressions of it are very good. Photos to follow on later.

Cheers for that. :) I look forward to seeing the pics.

Any issues with backlight bleed?

Some quick shots, it should be noted that my camera is jaff and therefore makes these look a little off in some areas. Much much better in the flesh.

Further notes on the screen: I can watch a movie or play a game quite happily now from my bed at least 5m away. The usual up down colour shifts apply but imo they are quite minimal. Getting a photo of this is proving a pain as its hard to make my camera give an accurate representation of what my eyes are seeing. (may try again later on)

The back light is noticeable, certainly at the higher brightness levels, but it is evenly spread across the panel and is not leaking in different patches of the screen. As with most flaws of the technology I think whether or not you can deal with this is down to personal preference.
I had a shot to show this but the camera overcompensated for the lack of light and therefore exaggerated the bleed. If I get time off the Dissertation witting I will use my Gf's camera which may give much better results.

Sorry that this is a little more brief than I had intended but I'm a bit busy currently.

Cheers, that looks pretty sweet to me, I am torn between this and a 24in to be honest. What res do you set the 360 at for this screen?

For these shots I think I set it to the Max res (1920 x 1080?) then pressed the auto button on the monitor and it resized the image to fit. Seems to work fine by doing that, although I think the next resolution down gave a slightly better image as this one is possible stretched a bit too much vertically.

max res is 1680x1050.

The lg's seem pretty inconsistant yet the samsung have the whole "panel lottery" thing.

I'd still say the samsung is the safer bet by a reasonable margin though.

Think I am set on the Sammy too now, 24in was probably just too much for me to stretch too although the OCUK 24in was rather tempting :)
