Looking for a 22in monitor

Think I am set on the Sammy too now, 24in was probably just too much for me to stretch too although the OCUK 24in was rather tempting :)

Interesting as I've just about come to this conclusion too. :)

My choice was between the Sammy and the Dell sp2208wfp.

I really liked all the extras on the Dell such as HDMi, Usb hub etc etc but couldn't find a proper review of it anywhere.

I finally discovered some info but going onto the Dell forums and reading there tonight I found a lot of unhappy people. The text on the Dell appears to be blurry and the overall quality of the screen has left a lot of people disappointed.

This leaves me with the Sammy. :)

The sammy will definiately be more responsive in games if its the overdriven 2ms ones.

I read a good review for the Ilyama e2201w 22", apparently you are guaranteed a samsung panel with it. The only thing is the 1000:1 contrast ratio (the sm-226bw has 3000:1), will this matter much because I know very little about monitors and will be moving from a 17" crt?

I will be using it exclusively for pc games and browsing the net (I might occasionally watch the odd dvd).

Yea right now it can't be beaten, its a bit boring looking for me but for actual games i hear its the best, and as you say..guarenteed S-panel is a big plus.

Hi guys I have a budget of about £200ish and would like to get myself a 22in widescreen monitor, it will mainly be used for PC gaming and the Xbox 360, I will normally be sitting at the desk when using it although occasionally might like to lie in bed to watch a movie so do not want to have a screen that looks rubbish unless right in front of it, anyway as I am totally clueless as to what is good and what is not hoping for some recommendations.

The 2 I had been looking at were

Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black

and

LG L226WTQ 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-045-LG&groupid=703&catid=17&subcat=949

I quite like the LG one and would prefer a silver casing but its not that important.

I brought the Samsung last week ;)

Its in bgrade for £175

Bargin in my eyes! Its amazing! no dead/lazy pixels, the colours are amazing best colour depth i've seen,

my sammy 223bw just came....it's wonderful! Videos are amazing and I can't believe I ever gamed on a 19''!

games are so much better!

Here's a pic of it next to me old 19'' Belinea....which is a great monitor for the money too, but it's in a whole different class :)

Argghh I just can't decide, will be buying this week and its between the Sammy the LG, and the OCUK 24in is just tempting me as well, I think I would get the Sammy if go with 22in which was my initial plan, but then having seen the 24in, only worry is would need to budget in a new graphics card, was thinking a 3870 to go with the new screen, but it's such a hard decision to make LOL

Looks really nice, I am going from a 19" too, is that the b-grade you got?

Modern 24's seem to do a much better job of running lower res' so maybe you could still get a 24" and game at a slightly lower res til you upgrade your card.

I was thinking that, currently gaming at 1440x900 on 7800 GS, I could budget for the 24in OCUK monitor and a 3870 512mb, would this be something worthwhile or would I probably still have to scale down?

I use a hyundai 24" and it runs wonderfully well out of native res - hopefully the OCUK will too. I also ran it at native using a lowly 256mb 3850pro with very good results so the 3870 should provide good results for a lot of games.

However, i'd be tempted to wait til this new 3870x2 comes out (couple of days) as that may effect prices of other cards. Then i'd invest in something like the 8800GT that does better than the 3870xt at the 24" monitors higher native res! :)

I spoke too soon guys....I have run some monitor tests and there's a good deal of backlight bleed on the top of the screen, and I've found 2 dead pixels. I'm not the happiest of campers, after dropping almost 200 quid on something I expect it to be 100% working and not faulty in any way (I was under the impression b-grade items were guaranteed this way as well, just may be missing manuals/damaged box/unimportatnt stuff). So I've submitted a RMA webnote enquiry.

:( a darn shame
