Looking for a 970 advice needed.

Pardon me for being a bit of a old fart, but it's been ages since I updated my graphics card (its a radeon 5570 !).

I'm running a GA-X58A UD3R (version 1) based overclocked system bought a few years ago from overclockers, running an i930@4Ghz. 650watt PSU

I just updated my main drive from HDD to SDD.

I'm now looking to get back into gaming, and 970 baed cards look like med-high end and a relative good price/performance ratio.

So my questions.

1) In previous systems, I had decent gaming graphics cards, but even when not running games, the card's cooling fans were really loud. Is there a 970 out there that runs pretty quiet when not gaming, or is this not generally an issue these days ?

2) Given I bought my system a few years ago, are there any issues I need to be aware of regarding motherboard compatibility with 970 based cards ?

3) I'm out of touch a bit. How the hell do you pick a 970 out of the range of cards available. I'm looking at these, but only because they were reviewed as being quite quiet, but I'm not sure that should be the ultimate deciding factor !

So all our ACX 2.0 cooled cards are semi passive till they hit 60 degree so in Idle and browser, player office usage the fans do normally not spin. Other manifacturer do the same, kind of getting the new standard... In reviews they do normally also state this so just have a look for a review of the card you want to get.

I've been finding guru3d.com a pretty good resource for info tangey (in a similar boat). They seem to cover most of the manufacturers, and specifically talk about fan noise (in low-impact use and under stress) as well as a few other things that might make one manufacturer's card of more interest than another.

Hi, please be also aware that we have just launched new 970 models with overworked and more power phases, 6+8 Pin power input and a baseplate that do touch the power management and RAM for cooling. The card do also come with an increased power target and improved cooler! You can find more information about the new SSC model at the following link, the equal FTW+ model with backplate preinstalled with get available in EU in about 2-3 Weeks.

If you have any question about the new models just let me know

Well that's wound me up considering my FTW is just over a month old.

Because of the multiple cards we launched we did also open the step up programm to step up within the same chipset. So you can do a step up from your model to the new FTW+ model if you want to, depending on the price you paied you will not have to pay much more on top.
