On the immigrant experience. I've read The Road Home by Rose Tremain and looking for similar books. I know there's a few more that I've heard about through the years but names escape me right now. Doesn't have to be realist/gritty or even fiction. Just as long as it focusses on the immigrant experience.

Never read it myself but White Teeth by Zadie Smith is supposed to be brilliant and may be along the lines you're looking for.
