The wife wants a dog, I've caved in despite disliking all domestic pets other than the quiet ones, e.g. Fish.

So, I need one that's small, quiet and won't crap everywhere. My parents have a toy poodle (not the ridiculous looking ones) which I could cope with so I'm looking for suggestions along those lines.

Thanks muchly.

Unless you're a queer, don't get a poodle for christ's sake.

Small squeaky yappy dogs are pathetic streaks of ****, so don't bother with them.

How about a nice chocolate Labrador?

Dogs seriously take over your life id think about this.

no more running off for last minute weekends away.

Limits your holidays.

constant whining, and barking and general dog things.

the cost (vet bills etc )

the smell

Just have kids, its cheaper in the long run.

Get a terrier if you want a dog, they are actually intelligent (rather than simply blindly obedient), good learners and very friendly. The only catch is that they have a mind of their own, which some people don't like.

I've plenty of people who'll look after the dog if we need to go away and there's quite a few kennels around.

Not all dogs constantly whine and bark and I suspect if I had one that did it'd end up down the dogs home by the end of the first day.

get a proper sized dog so you won't look a tool walking it down the road. Labs are ace, I love spaniels but they need a lot of exercise. why not just go down to the local RSPCA centre and see what's there?

ONce you have your dog, get insurance for the vet's bills, M&S Pet Insurance is one of the best around and cheapest to boot!

Seriously though, a yorkie would undoubtedly indicate that I'm gay.

Lol i read the thread title and thought you had lost your dog and was posting to see if anyone had found it or wanted to help you find it...

Dont mind me *Hums to himself* :p

I'm not queer ... thanks, and I'm sure I mentioned that it needed to be small.

Small dogs do nothing but bark at peoples' feet and get terrified of things like plant pots and slippers.

A proper dog will defend and alert you of intruders, will be loyal and brave, and won't shake like it's ****ting razorblades whenever there's a loud noise.

Lab > poodle weasel dog

Small Dog= Gay (or it's your OH dog)

Not that I like dogs, but no way would get a small yappy rat like dog...they never shut up.

Parents dog doesn't yap, whine or get terrified of anything, I've really only ever seen dogs that are mistreated act like you've described.

It's not going to be my dog, it's for her and I'm not sure I could afford the stable fee's for a horse like that.

ive got 3 chiuhias ( badly spelt :p ) and there great its the only breed ive ever had they got there own personalitys and are a joy to have. Id recommed looking for someone who actually breeds them or failing that go to the rspca if you dont mind second hand dogs. Whatever dog you get youll end up treating them like the part of the family :)

Ok i would go for the lab/spaniel type sized dog personaly.

anything smaller and you may as well be getting a cat.

some sort of mongeral spaniel halfbreed lab thing, thats what my dog was and it was a sound hound.

good size. not too big but not a yappy rat either
