Looking for a durable keyboard

I think we have come along way in terms of keyboard design for you to really need to worry about that for an X amount of years. Any high end keyboard you get nowadays will last a good long time, heck some people are still using the old G15s bought when they first come out.

So don't worry and just pick the keyboard you like the most : )

We went backwards when cost reductions came in during the 90's. Back in the 80's a good keyboard could make or break a PC clone. (that's part of the reason why the PC Jr. failed - its keyboard sucked compared to the IBM Model F/M)

The buttons I press are shift + one wasd or ctrl + wasd in gaming genrally so its not an issue?

It could be on the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. The Geekhack review states;

And speaking of USB, that brings us to a very important point - the keyboard is NOT NKRO. And I don't mean not NKRO as in, because it's USB it can only to 6+4 keys. No. I mean, there are no diodes on the board, so key combos are blocked by the controller instead of by the USB protocol. So you will run into combinations that get blocked at only 2 keys, meaning this is just 2-key rollover. One such combination is Z+X+C, which screwed me up because I use those keys for both emulators and music games. Not that I couldn't find a new cluster of keys to use, but it's just something that I wouldn't want to have happen immediately after spending $130 on a keyboard.

But the Razer website states;

Yes, the Razer BlackWidow does have anti-ghosting capabilities. The Razer BlackWidow is a USB only keyboard that features a gaming optimized key matrix that allows the recognition of up to six simultaneous key presses. N-key rollover (NKRO) is only possible with a direct connection to a native PS/2 port on the computer which also has other limitations that USB overcomes. The Razer BlackWidow’s gaming optimized key matrix serves a similar purpose while using the more modern and readily available USB port.

Other websites also state that the Razer is NOT NKRO but wired to prevent most blocking near the WASD keys. It has problem with Z, X and C obviously and also round the arrow keys. It's not as good as full NKRO. So if I was gaming I'd be wary.

As the Geekhack review also points out, it's a keyboard aimed at gamers. So the lack of full NKRO is quite puzzling.

just a thought but has anyone thought of doing a PS2/USB hybrid keyboard?

I haven't seen one. Seen plenty with dual usb though for usb ports on board. But there are USB to PS/2 adapters. The only time I see people messing around with the cables is to do USB mods on older 80s era serial or ADB cables to make them work with newer/modern PCs.
