I've been looking around trying to find out under budget - £2500 and am having no luck. Any places you can recommend? I've tried the usual - Ebay and Autotrader but nothing.

Look for a petrol one instead - if you dont do high mileage the savings buying the diesel wont be much, if you *do* do high mileage you dont want a citycar anyway :)

The slight issue is the JTD is much better then the petrol ones though.

But what he's saying is, a diesel will only save you substantial money (if any) if you do probably 20k a year upwards, and if you're doing that kind of mileage, i know i wouldn't want to be doing it in a tinny, unreliable FixItAgainTomorrow city hatchback.

Well i've been a 1.2 for about 20 minutes, and last time i checked build quality and interior comfort doesnt go up with engine size (exception of leather obv). It felt like a tin can, didn't feel overly stable at 70mph and by gosh it took its time to get there. The JTD engine is a very capable engine, a mate of mines dad has one in his duplo and heaps praise on it. But when your doing high enough mileage to warrant a diesel engine, surely one in a better comfier car is a better choice.

EDIT: this was a 51 plate btw.

I have the punto hgt multijet- basically an uprated jtd and think it is a tad unfair to describe it as "tinny" and "unreliable"- have done around 16000 in mine since october and no real worries so far (only one breakdown ;)- due to a jubilee clip flying off the bottom of radiator)- don't be put off by the usual comments re fiats. check out: www.fiatforum.com and www.puntomk2.com for any enquiries re: puntos

re: comfort- in all fairness the suspension does break your back slightly on even slightly poor surfaces- but other than that it is ok decent seats plus dual zone climate in mine = :)

that'll be why then, have a go in one with a proper engine (100bhp JTD multijet bells and whistles super duper lump) and see what ya think ;)

feels solid at 70, and not bad at 120 on our private runway with no children and kittens in sight :D

Why would the engine make a difference to its suspension/chassis feel at high speed  .

the diesel (especially the HGT) is gonna have stiffer suspension

i can assure you the 1.9 HGT feels planted at 70 :)

I still accelerated quicker than my mates punto on my bike.....pedal bike.

Until i hit redline.....and died.Much like the punto i imagine.

i drove a mates 2/3 year old hgt and that didnt feel great on the motorway, i doubt the uprated suspension would make a lot of differance.

it was easy to park though - so my missue would love it. :D

had one for 3 years while at uni. 1.2 sporting. there is no such thing as a decent engined punto. Even the 1.8 HGT was a pile of steaming poo.
