Hi,
I`m looking for a freeview recorder for my parents. It needs to have a hard disk of about 160GB and preferably without any further built in recording options (ie, no DVD recorder and no VHS recorder). I`m having trouble finding any at present because it also needs to be QUIET. The units I have found for a reasonable price (£129-ish) seem to have "noisey" mentioned in the reviews. A Sony has caught my attention (RDR-HXD890)but it has a built in DVD recorder also which I would prefer to avoid.

I gave them a 2007 Logik to use earlier in the year but they found it too noisey when recording and not being gadget people and because the software could be a little buggy at times, they just couldn`t get along with it.

Any recommendations? I was hoping the price would have come down a bit nowadays. I paid £170 for a 250GB Logik in Feb 2007 and was hoping I`d find a good quality 160GB 'Quiet' one for around £100 now.

Digihome DTR160 for £89.
It hasn't let me down since May 20th and I use it every day usually recording 2 things at the same time.
In fact I bought it the day before I went to Egypt and when I got back there was about 25 recordings waiting for me.
My 75 year old mother can use it because its so easy to program and play back.
I've also fitted 5 more for her mates and they can all use them with ease.
My wife has got 2 of the DTR80s and says that they're the best present I've ever bought for her.
Go for it.

heres a screen grab of the Guide where you set up the recording and the bottom pic is of the Library.
(and yes, I haven't watched Peter Kay yet).

I have had a Humax for 18 months it has been faultless, before we got that we tried Thompson,Netgem and Digifusion they were all very bad!

luck of the draw I guess, with ours we had constant missed recordings, lock ups, etc. I can not say the same about the Humax its been faultless, hence why we would upgrade to the twin tuner SD+HD freesat recorder they have just launched.
