Hey Guys,

Im looking for a non OLED 43" Screen, 4k or 2560x1440p is good with me,

I was looking at the following:

iiyama G-MASTER Red Eagle G4380UHSU-B1

Samsung G70C 43"

Has anyone got one of the above, what are your thoughts on it?

The Samsung I can get at a really good price, how ever the ghosting on it concerns me.

Not sure why the iiyama G-Master is in bold lol, maybe its a sign!

Cheers

I've had the iiyama one for a couple of years. The picture quality is great, good colour, nice blacks. Other than a couple of stuck pixels, which I have to look hard for, it's had zero issues. Also has a 3yr warranty which these days seems quite rare for a monitor.

For gaming it's good but it does have black smearing as expected being a va. Hdr is pretty weak too.

I used it with a ps5 too until I got an oled. It will do 1440p/120 on the ps5 but not 4k/120 since it only has hdmi 2.0 and vrr doesn't work with hdmi 2.0 on the ps5.

It comes with a remote which is handy for changing inputs / settings.

The speakers are pretty naff so I would use external speakers or a soundbar which I use via an optical connection to my pc.

I'm happy with the monitor for regular pc work and occasional gaming and watching videos but the Samsung would probably be a step up for gaming / hdr if you can live with its shortcomings.

Just checked out the Samsung website and that is a tempting price but it's only a 2 year warranty so that would put me off.

Thanks for that @49er

I ordered the Samsung Wednesday evening, arrived Thursday morning! For £460 I thought its worth a shot... and to be honest I love it.

For a non OLED screen the blacks are pretty good on it, and I'm loving working on the desktop with it.

Yes it has the typical VA panel slight ghosting, black smearing. But you soon look past that.

Thanks for the input though :)

Glad to help. That's a great price - cheaper than what I paid for my Iiyama! I'd definitely be tempted if I was looking for a new one right now.

Nice deal! Where did you find that? Tempted to upgrade my 40 inch 4k Phillips monitor thats almost 10 years old!

I have that monitor and it still works almost 9 years later! As for the Samsung - try the manufacturer's website - it's going cheap there with a couple of extra discounts thrown in.

PHILIPS BDM4065UC/00?

It's a great monitor just not the best for gaming. But for productivity/general use it's amazing. Love having two windows open etc!

Never had a single issue with it!

Yep that one. I replaced it with another Philips 43in edge lit hdr which lasted a little over 3 years (about 2 months after its warranty expired) before the picture started to go. Put me off getting another Philips especially as, like most companies, they only do 2 year warranties now.

Yeah true. This Samsung one looks good. Also tempted by a 43 C4!

The Samsung is tempting at that price - though the reviews are a bit mixed. I have an lg 42 c3 for my ps5 which is amazing. Not sure I'd want one for pc use but if you can get it cheap with a long warranty may be worth it.

I'm just curious.. Why would anyone favour a VA screen over OLED or even IPS?

I've never seen a VA screen in action that made me think 'yep that's the one for me'.

loved my VA panel Asus PG35VQ which i found was far better then my Asus IPS PG34Q it replaced

But then again the PG35VQ wasn't your normal everyday cheap VA panel monitor

VA has much better contrast ratio to IPS, no backlight bleed and generally looks better in dark rooms. No burn in compared to oleds too! For fast gaming they struggle but for normal pc usage and watching videos I prefer them. I think VA with mini-led is a pretty good alternative to oled if burn in and price are a concern.

I ended up using my 43” QN90B as monitor. Replacing a VA 34” ultrawide.
Happy with the decision so far. No faffing about with pixel refresh, hide task bar and black background.
Only thing is concerned about is how close I am. May need a floor stand for the tv and insert it behind the desk to create some gap in between.

The latest Samsung 43" mini-led TV is the best option so 43 QN90D

Don't go near the Samsung G70C, it's inferior to the TV equivalent in every way.

I tried the 43" QN90D and ended up returning it within a few days. Normal desktop use/media consumption was great, but the smearing in gaming (especially in grey/dark scenes) was too much for me.

Ended up going with ROG Swift PG38UQ and have been over the moon with it.

I've been hammering my LG c2 oled daily since June 2022.. Zero burn after running some test images.
The simple thing to do is allow it to run the automatic pixel cleaning when prompted by the TV.
It's used for gaming and movies 99% of the time though.. It might be a different story if I just left it on excel for days at a time.

I dunno how OLEDs from other manufacturers stack up but the LG is superb.

I've got an lg 42 c3 too which I've only used with my ps5 and watching movies and tv. Wouldn't be keen spending hours displaying static images on an oled - even playing the ps5 I end up turning off as much of the hud on games when playing. It's going to be a pain replacing the Iiyama when it dies - hopefully not for ages but nothing seems to last very long any more. My NEFF dishwasher which I used for 9 years since I moved into my flat just died. I rang up NEFF to see if I could get it fixed and when they asked me for the serial number they were flabbergasted (as was I) when it turned out to be made in Dec 96! 28 years it lasted! Needless to say I bought another NEFF one...if it lasts half as long I'll be amazed :D
