Looking for a good FPS

Only got a Q6600, 9800GT with 4GB RAM, but want something to get me involved.

Tbh the only real game i can recommend this year i've played is, Mass effect.
Old and not a FPS but still a shooter in a sense

What is Crysis, world at war and far cry 2 like?

Also tempted (I know it's not a FPS) - NFS Shift, but I haven't got a steering wheel these days

Crysis is great but does need a fair bit of grunt, Far Cry 2 was awesome until I realised they'd forgotten to actually make a game, World at War is good and underrated IMO but a bit over the top.

Tried COD4?

Currently playing through world at war (singeplayer) and I rather like it, it isn't anything groundbreaking and is similar to the other CODS (COD2 etc) in terms of singleplayer.

On the other hand, I didn't fancy the mutliplayer at all. Maybe it was the maps or the whole levelling system which I don't really like.

I don't know really, just never have. Never spent the time.

I thought about GTA4 online, but haven't done it.

Left 4 Dead
Counterstrike Source
Crysis
Half Life 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: World at War
Team Fortress 2

As a start for FPS.

Don't know haven't been for a while as I've moved out of Southampton centre. I went into Mono last time

Last time I was there it was an awesome Giles Petterson night. Keep meaning to catch up with the High Tide boys.

Tempted to try COD / Crysis. Is there like a level matching online so you don't your arse handed to you on a plate?

Crysis is good for single player, theres no multiplayer to my knowledge? Only with Crysis: warhead.

COD4 is an amazing game online. Just look around for decent servers

Not really as there would be no way of enforcing it. Plus it's been out a couple years now. However, I think COD4 is great though because in TDM - if you're good, you'll end up with a lot of kills and a good k/d ratio. If you're not so good, you'll end up with a lot of kills and a bad k/d ratio.

looking for very good/competitive game play, try cod:uo and quake 3 (or quakelive (Google it to play it)). looking for fun with good graphics, then cod4/5

If you want something emmersive try an fps / rpg like Stalker : Shadows of Chernobyl. That'll freak you out when the lights are out and you are all alone..
