Looking for a MMORPG to be immersed in.

Started back in GW2 recently, could not remember any the details of my original account for the life of me sadly.... all those birthday gifts! I do remember buying it in store on disc at OCUK, looong time ago.

Finished all the story, a week or so away from getting first legendary and also just ticking off world map completion and playing some WvW.

Such a good game to switch off too, whack a movie on the ipad and chill.

hows EQ1 doing thhese days?
I haven't played in many many years, but I understand that it's still relatively populated as free-to-play, but some content & features are paywalled (if you don't mind the monthly sub then you get access to everything).
They now have time-locked progression servers that unlocks expansions over time.

You might also be interested in Project 1999, which is a community run server of Classic Everquest with permission from the current owners of EQ, so no fear of sudden shutdown.

No don't buy ESO+ just make alts if you need bagspace. As for DLC you can but crowns with gold to get the DLC. Only the expansions you have to pay cash for and they go on sale twice a year. You can currently get Thieves Guild DLC for free for the next week or so during the 10 year Anniversary event

Do I need to get the expansions ? Am I missing out not getting those ?

i believe the consenses is no you dont and you wont for a long while. there is enough content to keep you going to the next sale if you wanted.
unless your a completionist and just have to get everything in one go FOMO and all :D

I suppose I'll just see how I get on in that case. It's a good candidate for my Asus ROG Ally too as it'll definitely run on that.

Just bought the complete edition of GW2 since it's on a heavy summer sale. Haven't played since early 2014 maybe .... looking forward to giving it a whirl again.

I'm interested to hear about what is the state of GW2 in 2024 for a returning player? I was very active for a few years from release but got burned out in WvW. I'll be building a new rig in Aug/Sept and might give GW2 another go.

Just tried it this afternoon ; graphically it's looking a bit dated, which isn't surprising considering it's 12 years old. But I haven't tried any of the content yet from the more recent expansions so that could change ( and I suspect it will ). Still quite a few players running around even in the starter zone, so it wasn't difficult to engage in zone events etc. Feels very familiar despite being away from the game for a decade, but there are a number of new mechanics and character customisation options that I will need some time to explore properly.

In terms of performance, the game is very smooth ... no frame rate drops, lag etc. Feels very fluid. A newly built modern day gaming rig shouldn't have any issues with this game.

I couldn’t play GW2 as I burn out very easy, the game triggers an OCD in me because of the map design meaning I feel the need to 100% each area and it wears me out!

Shame because I enjoy the gameplay.

New world was a fun run around for a month or so but that was it

but nothing will ever capture that day one world of warcraft feeling , or when I rejoined in litch king
