In the past I used my Sony Ericsson K800i to control my PC via Bluetooth using remote control HID files for WinAMP/MCE/Desktop/MPC etc and it worked flawlessly, meant I could lie in bed and change music or go around the house adjusting volume using the phone (good BT range) as needed.

Since I don't have an SE phone any more I've lost the ability to do this and would like to be specced a suitable remote.

It does not have to be bluetooth so can be IR , just means I won't be able to roam out of the PCs view but no big deal.

I have seen ones like this: eBay but cannot find any info on if it will work flawlessly with anything but MCE. It has mouse controls though and everything so I'm wondering if it will work fine. It also has play controls and it appears to come with software but I am assuming that it will be rubbish due to being unknown.

It is however dirt cheap and possibly worth a shot?

I just want to be able to leave WinAMP open and be able to remotely control the playlist or when sitting back watching a movie be able to control the player using the remote.

I have looked at the Harmony range and they are way too pricey and the cheaper ones only control non PC devices (does not come with IR receiver/pc control software by the looks of it).

The alternative approach I had was to buy a really crap Logitech wireless mouse and use uBerOptions to remap all the buttons to do "media" functions like on the keyboard - very easily done and then just block off the mouses sensor with tape.

Thanks!

Hey sorry for some reason the forum never emailed me a notification about this thread hence why I never saw your reply now as I had an update for the thread and had to do a search :S

Anyway, I found a cheaper solution, I don't like iPods and plus a touch would be too expensive so in the end I realised the answer was staring me in the face all along!

On eBay a while back I bought a Portuguese version of the old diNovo desktop keyboard set for £30, normally costs £60 odd for the UK version. I have the diNovo latest version anyway so now decided to use the numpad from the old dinovo desktop only as a media control as it has media keys and it works flawlessly :D

Absolute genius idea if I say so myself and cheap + I can take it around the house since my room is in the top middle of the house every corner is almost central to the receiver so works wonderfully when playing loud music :p

:D

I just cannot believe I did not think of this sooner heh, and here I was considering a harmony type remote perhaps!

The dinovo numpad also has a thermometer built in, my room is an average 25 degrees and 27 when a bit juicy ^_^
