Looking for a new 4K TV

So I have decided to buy myself a new TV. I’m a bit newbie when it comes to all the tech. The OLED TVs look great however, there are some concerns. The QLED whilst brilliant looks to be a marketing ploy.

So any advice on TVs that are 55” I will mainly be using for TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and may look at some 4K Blu-ray or an Apple 4K TV Box.

I’ve decided to get back into gaming so I am considering an Xbox or PS4.

So if you could provide any advice that would be great. I am also thinking I may invest in either a sound bar or the idea of some Q Acoustic Bookshelf Speakers and a Sub plus an Amp.

What are your concerns about OLED? They are the best screens on the market currently, and if you're considering them then I guess you've got a decent budget?

The image burn etc, they are the best on the market but £1500 I think is quite a lot for a TV. I’m looking at something just as good but a little cheaper.

KD-55XE9005 would be the best non OLED TV at the moment, but they are only a few hundred less than the OLED. After that you are looking at the MU7000/MU8000 from Samsung or the EX750B in 50" or 58" from Panasonic.

Without a doubt oled is the way to go IMO.
I recently bought an LG55B7 & it's the best screen I've ever owned.
Feed it a decent signal & the IQ is stunning.

I've paired it with a Denon 2400H AV & Sony x800 blu ray player. Came in at just over £2k but well worth it.

I will have a look in the stores and see what they look like.

The reviews look okay for the Sony, the Samsung I believe are also very good. Not a bad price in Currys at the moment

This, I recently bought a KD49E9005, its very good for the price (£875)
I was going to go for the B7 OLED, but 55 is slightly too large and I also have concerns about image burn - I have a ten year old who gets up early and plays for several hours at weekend before we roll out of bed, I had a feeling there might be a permanent Fifa score board etched into the panel within a few months...

I came from a good Panasonic Plasma so I had doubts with going LED, but it the blacks are just as good when sitting directly in front - they go a little grey when you sit at an angle.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the QLED? I also like the connection box from Samsung, nice idea as I hate wires.

Two LGs maybe worth looking at are the 55SJ950V and the 55SJ850V - they are the only two models I can find that are not RGBW panels and the 950 even has Dolby Vision support already.

Had a look online but can’t see any availble in the UK, that are not refurbished. Just to compare prices.

I remember that the 55" KS7000 went down to about £1100 before it got replaced, the QE55Q7F isn't quite there yet.

I like the design of the Q7 but again as you’ve mentioned it’s a repackaged TV. I may look at a 49” and see what bargains I can get, as they could be considered and put the rest into some speakers.

After buying one and spending ages comparing loads, then I would deffo go for the LG 55" B7. Some vouchers flying around at the moment to bring it down to £1400.

Otherwise if you want to save some cash and want a slightly bigger panel but don't mind a slightly older model, then grab the Panasonic TX58EX700B 58" for £719.00 with code PCT50 at the co-op electrical.

I am in the same boat. I am considering which option is best.

Samsung UE55MU7000 or pushing the boat out and getting a LG OLED55B7V. £700 difference in price to get OLED :( So tempted but not sure if fully worth it as i only really watch Sky/HD

This will be a big upgrade for me as i purchased this 6 years ago: https://www.whathifi.com/samsung/ue46c5100/specs

£700 difference is a lot. Ideally I would like one less than £1000. So £700 -£800 ideally. I’m sure the OLEDs are superb. I just think a nice TV plus speakers and an Amp would be better. I may look in JL or Richer Sounds.
