Looking for a new 4K TV

I was in similar boat to you OP. Hated the idea of spending £1k or more on a new TV. About a year ago I bought a 50" 4k Panasonic for £700. It broke (just stopped turning on) after about 4 months. Got it replaced and 8 months later exact same problem. Reliability issue aside, I was not impressed by the quality at all. Software was very laggy. Motion wasn't good and I just wasn't overly impressed. Black Friday I went out on a limb and impulse bought the LG OLED C7 for £1,500 and it is absolutely amazing. Interface is fantastic, easy to use, software is quite responsive and the 4k quality is just unreal.

They do look amazing tbh. It’s a lot of money I think to outlay on a TV, as I would be getting it on finance.

£700 difference is a lot. Ideally I would like one less than £1000. So £700 -£800 ideally. I’m sure the OLEDs are superb. I just think a nice TV plus speakers and an Amp would be better. I may look in JL or Richer Sounds.

When are you looking to buy?

If you can hold off 6 months, there's a chance the OLED's may hit £1000, just depends how long you can hold out for?

Personally though, if I had a budget of say £1500 in total and needed audio equipment too, then I would definitely NOT buy the OLED and get something cheaper with a nice sound system to go alongside it. While the picture is absolutely amazing on the OLED, the sound still isn't that great on its own, and you will definitely have a better experience with a slightly less expensive TV and a better stand alone sound system alongside it.

I am in no rush really and I would as you say want to get a sound system also. I would rather wait really.

If you are in no rush, then I would sit tight for a bit and wait until LG launches the LG OLED B8. Can't tell the future, but will be interesting to see what it does to the price on the B7. There will also be the launch of cheaper makes launching OLED's this year too.

In my opinion you won't be disappointed with whichever TV you go for out of the current crop, we have a 55B7 downstairs but then we also recently got a 701V for upstairs which is one of the sets that falls into the RGBW bracket I believe, we are more than happy with both, fantastic picture quality on both sets once calibrated.

I have purchased the Samsung HWM S650 soundbar and the wireless SWA900s In the boxing day sales. Arrived today :) So far very impressed with the audio. It's just wanting (not needing) a new TV. If OLED is expected to drop even further in the next 1-2 months I would hold out.

I will hold out then. Any recommendations on an Amp and some Bookstand Speakers with a Sub. I don’t really want surround sound as I would like to stream and play music also. (Should I make a new post)

I expect it will be referring to the xe90 series - the one you quoted is part of this range.
I'm looking at the kd-49xe9005

Yeah most likely the XE9005 is the one they refer to. The 9305 is OLED money the 9005 is that bit cheaper and an amazing TV. Watched Dunkirk in 4K HDR earlier and oh my god it looked amazing.

I'm also in the same boat currently but coming from my old 55" inch 4K Bravia (non HDR) is a bit of chore as anything sub £700 is pretty much a step down from it.

At the moment I'm looking at ~£800 TVs but there doesn't seem to be a great all round set at that price. There's always an issue with brightness, black level with each manufacturer's offering. And if I go above that price range we're talking £1100 at which point I feel like I might as well go for the "no compromise" B/C7 OLED.

I gather the OLED will hold it's price better? Less depreciation?
