Hi guys thanks in advance for the help.

I'm looking to build a new pc, I've had a gaming laptop for a long time now due to not having space but I'm so sick of it now, I've just moved into a new place with the other half and now have room for a desk so here I am!

The pc will be in the lounge so it needs to be as quiet as possible as if not the Mrs will cry.

I'm looking to spend about 1k on the tower.

Also I will be buying a 144hz screen any ideas which is the best out there? I've always had benq in the past but has anyone overtaken them in the last few years? Probably happy sticking with 24"

Looks good I was thinking of going with the i7 would it not be worth it?

It's the crucial sad better than the Samsung?

I've always been a nvidia guy would going for radeon give me more bang for my buck?

I don't mind paying a bit extra for things
 
for gaming you'll see no benefit in the i7 if you were to start doing video editing big time then you would see the benefit from an i7.

I reckon the Samsung drives are better but that is just my opinion
 
How about something along these lines if you want to go Nvidia? Smaller Micro ATX case + AIO watercooling so should help keep the Boss happy :D

Hah always the most important part is keeping her happy especially if she finds out how much I'm spending :P

Would i be better off spending a bit more and pumping up the gfx card? I am looking at it lasting quite a while, also no big hd but decent size ssd, I dont mind spending a bit more than normal for the best stuff as I will probably pay for it over 12 months on the finance interest free option.

Does anyone have an opinion on 144hz monitors I've been away from the game for 2+ years and I'm out of date with these things now!

Personally I'd go with a 980Ti if you want to spend a bit more on a top quality graphics card, but the 970 looks to be a pretty decent spec for the price if you'd prefer to keep it around the £1k mark. Unfortunately I'm not much use when it comes to monitors as I've got the gaming rig on the living room TV, which goes down well with Mrs OJ when she misses TV because I'm tearing it up on GTA :D
 
Ok thanks, any ideas on noise dampening cases don't really want full tower as it would take too much space but the micro atx you linked would be perfect size for the flat here would that one be good or are their quiter ones? What puts that above other cases?

The R9 390 is generally considered a faster card than a 970, plus it has double the Vram.

You can go for a Samsung SSD but I dont think you would notice £10 extra performance if you put them side by side, the main goal is to just get a good SSD and the BX200 is one. That bequiet case, is it really too big for you? it has a double glazed window, quality Pure Wings 2 fans and has sound damping material applied to some surfaces.

The Superflower PSU has ECO mode so that fan stops spinning below a certain temperature.

Going for a 144hz monitor for games is a huge step up over a 60Hz monitor, the motion and fluidity advantage is obvious plus that AOC has Freesync.

Thanks guys, freesync wise I've never used it nor do I know much about it, I know that when I was a competitive gamer I never used vsync as it used to lag my input when playing fps and felt laggy, I'm guessing I wont use any of them and just stick to capping my fps and using 144hz.

Correct me if I'm completely wrong.
 
Freesync gives you the benefits of Vsync (no tearing) but with the benefits of Vsync OFF no delay, it is just AMD answer to Gsync which I hope you maybe have seen discussed and the benefits it gives.

I think the Fractal DefineS case (still optimized for quietness) is a better choice for radiators and AIO units like what that FuryX has.
 
I've read up on it but if its syncing the fps with the hz on the monitors wouldn't you feel that as input lag just as the same problem as vsync just not as dramatic, or even your sensitivity ingame would feel different depending on how its syncing ie it goes from 144hz to 120hz you would be able to feel that?
 
You dont notice it as the monitor is telling the card when to refresh rather than the other way around.
 
So much info to process after being inactive for so long !

Really dont know what to go for now haha, looking at the benchmarks of the fury vs the 980ti the ti comes out on top so might be worth going for that over the fury I dont intend to upgrade in a long while.

Too many choices
 
With a 1080P monitor, the FuryX will be ample, its not a lot of pixels to push, even the R9 390 will blitz that resolution.

If it wasnt on offer I would have said grab a 980ti, but a £50+ saving, Cheaper Freesync monitors (you dont have to enable this BTW, it can be turned off and acts just like a 144Hz monitor) compared to Gsync, there are no negatives to enabling Freesync only positives.
