Which would you suggest?

I am going to be upgrading soon to a new conroe setup and was looking for a nice new shiney case to go with it.

Currently have a Coolermaster Centurion 5 :D

Was looking at either of these 3

Lian-Li PC V1000 PLUS Black Aluminium Midi-Tower
Lian-Li PC-101 Aluminum Mid Tower - Black
Lian-Li PC V1100 PLUS Black Aluminium Midi-Tower

Have a hiper type R PSU if that makes any difference :) and my drives are black hence wanting a black case.

The main thing is I was looking for a case that stays nice a cool (good air flow).

Quite like the idea of the PSU at the bottom of the case but dont know if that has any dissadvantages?

Would be grateful for your comments peeps.

Many thanks :D

(the reason for looking at the lian-li is that I dont really like the look of any other cases)

I would go for the V1000B+ just on the looks and the build quiality if you can afford it, but the cooling is a fair bit worse than the Akasa Eclipse 62.

The question really need to ask is - do I want it cool inside my case and hang everything else, or do I want a well made, good looking case that cools well enough? If you just want cooling - get the Eclipse, If you need decent cooling with the looks of the V1000B+, get the V1000B+.

I have both. My SLi rig is an Eclipse. My Conroe test rig is in an Eclipse. My Intel 631 rig is a V1000B+.

I do like the look of the V1000 though :D

So the Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case is the best for cooling atm then?

I just dont want to end up having to take the side of the case off again, as I seem to of had to in the past.

That wont happen with a v1000+!

If I take the side panel of mine, most of my temperatures go really high. If a case is setup correctly if you remove the side panel the airflow should basically become non existant and you should see a temperature increase.

Going by cooling potential, 0% is a case you will have heat trouble with, 100% is the Eclipse the Lian Li with its temperatures gives you a case of... (goes to win calc)

70% for non SLI
40% for SLI

Worked those out by using the temperature difference between and Eclipse and a v1000+, and the known temperature that components start failing on you.

For non SLI the v1000+ is one of the best, especially if you ever want watercooling as its design makes it quite easy. For SLI it is capeable but you can get a couple of much better coolers, namely the Eclipse.

But under any circumstances you should not have to take the side panel of a v1000+, they have high case temperatures, but they have a smaller gap between idle and load.

Just make sure you buy the +/PLUS version of the case, the original isnt a patch on the newer versions.

Just thought I would add that just cos you have black drives doesn't mean you have to get a black Lian Li. The Lian Li 1000+ cases come with a Drive bezel that masks your drive, I am getting a v2000+ but in silver and I have 2 black drives. I just bought an extra drive bezel and they will mask the black drives, Yewen has the same thing, black drives with a sliver case.

To make it easier I will prove the fact. :)

To sound like a complete muppet.

Do you have to take the front of the drives for it to fit behind these bezels?

I wont be going Sli as its pretty pointless at the moment and am happy with what will be my setup.

If I ordered the V1000 from Overclockers would I get the +/PLUS case?

If that case will be acceptable for cooling as it sounds like it would from the above comments, it will have to be that case then, as it looks so good.

Nope, you just put the drive behind a door. :) My pictures should make it easier to understand.

Both the v1000+ and the v1000b+ that OcUK sell are the newer version. (At least +1 but maybe +2, dont worry about it, both really good.)

Is there anyone younger than me. ;)

But on a serious note, the drive stealth bezels are really good, sturdy and look great on Lian Li cases of course!

and the Silver does look rather sexy.

Not sure about the sheep porn though :D

Right thanks for all your help chaps (visual aids too).

Think my mind is made up for the Lian-Li PC V1000 PLUS Silver Aluminium Midi-Tower.

Magic :D :D :D

Glad your going for silver, you know it makes sense!

The black one looks just as good aswell you know, but I do not have a black one (*spits*) available to photograph. :p

To be honest there are a few drives that will not fit with the Lian Li bezel.
Mainly the drives where the front of the tray is the same width as the drive it's self - One such example is the Pioneer 109XL drives. In this case you would need to remove the front.

But as long as the front of the tray on your optical drive is no wider than 135mm you'll be safe.

@ Yewen,

Can you take a piccie of your v1000 with the side off... I wanna see inside the case if thats alright...

If anyone else can take a pic it would be appriciated

Stelly

If you don't mind I wont, I will recycle my old one from October when I built the rig. :)

I can get a better one if needed.

The leg is there in all pictures, due to my reserator and the trouble it is to move both for a picture. ;)

Sorry also is that the Lian-Li TR-3A Silver Aluminium Fan Controller in the front of that case?

as it says its a 3.5" but yours seems to be in a 5" bay

It is indeed a TR-3A and it is indeed 3.5" but those cases have a 5.25>3.5 bay adapter with them so theres no bother with fitting one.

I'm sure Yewen will comfirm for himself
