Looking for a new cooler for the GTX480

Hey guys I have just the GTX480 on a recommendation from a friend and I am rather excited about it. He did tell me though that these things can run pretty hot and seriously noisy under heavy load so was debating on getting a 3rd party cooler for it.

Now I have not done this before so I am somewhat lost here so any help and advice would be simply superb.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replies folks much appreciated, I am running an i7 930 OC'd to 3.80GHz in the Antec 1200 case. I have on order the new Antec Khuler 620 so trying to do everything to keep things cold kinda gets expensive pretty quick as I have found out.

I have looked at the VF3000 I think and looks rather impressive (should do for £40 ish) the 480 I have bought is made by Zotac just in case anybody wants to know though I don't know if that makes any difference?

Thanks again for your help folks always appreciated.

If you want a 3rd party cooler I'd advise the vf 3000, will take up 3 slots vs 2 of the stock cooler and you may want another so the fans can get air easier but it's not needed.. They also take up a half slot on the back due to the fat mounting screws but they cool the whole card extremely well and are far quiet than the stock cooler when turned up to max as all you really hear is the whoosh of air.

Well space is not really an issue since I have no other cards in my machine apart from the 2 video cards I am currently running. My sound is on board and I use a wired connection for internet so no need for a wireless card either which gives me more room.

@ Liquid - Reading the review for the one you mentioned and it looks rather nice indeed :)

Hi, yeah although it must be said the zalman is also good, but I can't get over the green lol.

I have just got my 480 delivered today and I am over the moon with it, so far max temp I have seen is around the 70's an my room ambient is around 20, and thats with the core at 820 and the ram on 1450, did a 3dmark 2011 and scored P6300 odd, I would love to know what a 580 gets:D

I'm so happy right now lol

Why not just get a GTX570 or a HD6950 ? They are as fast and much quieter. Not to mention you still have a warranty.

At the Op. Definately consider the Gelid Icy Vision, excellent cooling and quiet too though I have put a fanmate on mine to reduce fan speed as it runs fullspeed otherwise(around 1800rpm) though its not noisy at full speed, its just not necessary as it cools very well. I would have considered the Zalman VF3000 but couldn't get one anywhere.
Have a look at the Gelid Solutions website and make sure you order Rev 2.:)

Basically a lack of funds and the 480 is supposed to be nearly equal to the 570 in most cases (so I have heard).

Thanks for your recommendation though I have to say the more I look at the VF3000F the more I like it even with the green lol

Very true Liquid but I am also thinking of maybe buying a second 480 when they drop further in price and go SLI but that is only a mere thought/idea at the moment.

PS - Sorry for the double post earlier :(
