Looking for a new faster hdd.

At the moment I have an IDE Maxtor DM9 80GB which has served me well over the past 3 1/2 years but now I need something with a little more capacity and definatley faster.

Any reccomendatons?

How big do you want?

<500Gb: Seagate 7200.10
=500Gb: WD AAKS (or Hitachi T7K500 from This Week Only if you want to save a bit)

Definatley don't need that much space

, I won't ever use more than 200GB.

OK, either a 200Gb Seagate 7200.10 or a 160Gb Hitachi 7K160 are probably the ones to look at.

Get either a 10k Raptor or better still 15k SCSI

Raptors are supposed to be the fastest, but they are relatively noisy.

Samsung drives are much MUCH quieter, but not quite as fast.

Seagates get good reviews!

Pretty much all the latest drives will be faster than your DM9, which had particulary poor performance for small file sizes.

Samsung are superb if you want a quite drive. I am looking to get one soon. Not sure if i should go SATA or not though.
